  • Dwindling catholic communities (especially rural canada) . Surrounded by conservative, happy, very social Protestant families with large families. My kids can't help but notice how nice it is to be rich in such an active Christian community.

We all know they are sacrament poor but we can't ignore they are people rich.  What's a mom to do as our kids grow up looking for that void to be filled?

The Catholic Church we have access to is 3hrs away and only ever gets filled during religious  holidays?? The Catholics there don't  have much interest talking about the faith??

Once a catholic gets wind of the john veneris and Michael matts of the world and hangs out in the world of trads were always hungry for more.

  • Hi Coptic Cruiser, where ya bin? Good to see a post from you.

Now, are your children actually pining over a lack of catholic community, or are you just assuming that they are or might?

Dwindling catholic communities? When we were kids we had Sunday Mass and Catholic school but Catholic community was hardly heard of. That was a different world of course.

Fill us in on how your children spend their time.
    Where are they schooled?
    How many are they?

I wonder how many of those protestants "talk about the faith"? Don't you think that having parents that care about the faith and talk about will have a deep and lasting effect on their children? Not in all cases, of course. There is always free will to stray from the truth and many chose to.

Can you expound on what you mean byt this please. I don't understand.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • I would not want any children of mine to be hanging around any of the Protestant churches if I were you.

  • Yeah I'm back I use to do my hair put gas in my 4x4 and have all the time in the world!!
God has a sense of humour I have 7 kids going on 8 by August  I homeschool we have a hobby farm with all sorts of animals.

My kids read, build, watch movies, visit friends, hunt, ride horses n ATMs and fish n swim.

I hang out with some conservative Protestants the one family is extra special. Out of 9 kids their 7 are the same age and gender as mine we are so complimentary ! Really get along do a lot of dialogue concerning the one true faith.  If God wants me catholic they say then I will become one so for now trying to learn my faith better.

The john veneri. And Michael matts help keep us informed. Such great resources everywhere. But we lack in a physical catholic community and my kids do notice.

We do explain why it's wrong to attend Protestant services it's hard to balance public life sometimes in the mind of a child.

I really need to update my passports and do a road trip to some TLM parishes in the US. I was thinking ohio and Montana as I live in beautiful British Columbia.

Trying not to think too much about the Fatima anniversary 1yr from now. Things are definitely getting worse around the world I'd like to see some of it before it gets too crazy.

All I can say is I love my trad cath faith, my family and this farm.

Gonna garden like crazy this year!! I'm totally hooked on organic. We've been on raw cows milk for 12yrs and now raw goats milk for the last 5yrs. No turning back now.

If your children think the Catholic faith is in anyway similar to heretical protestantism then you need more Catholic culture in their lives, and they need to understand protestants are not Christians but Heretics.

  • I agree with u tdrev

But honestly it sounds so harsh had I not kept with any Protestant community I'd for sure be a hermit my kids along with me.

I keep those very wise catholic rules n teachings in my head n heart for we must. A sspx priest once told me that families he watched grow up in a rigid black n white environment often had rebellious wayward kids.

Those families who were more flexible seemed to have the most success.

I don't condone compromise but if I had a choice spending another weekend alone or with a conservative Protestant family whose kids were conservative and God centered who enjoyed discussing our own personal beliefs in a charitable way.

I'm going with a Protestant get together as my catholic faith loves them enough to want to share it.

The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

  • boy, I would be so careful!!  My parents had 9 of us, in the 1950-70 era.  My mom was catholic and my Dad a convert.  We sure had a lot of catholicism (school) around us, BUT the era was also,  mingle with the protestants.  We were more apt to have family gatherings with my dad's side more than mom's side.  It was that way for many reasons.

It was brought to my mom's attention and mine(2nd oldest) that protestants can be saved too.  See what we "do" says my aunt.

Result:  After my dad died, my mother married, 5 years later, to a twice divorced man in my aunt's house and my brother saw it fitting to make it a double ring ceremony.

More results: Two sisters in adultery, two of no faith and the others left the catholic church and believe that anything goes, is just fine.

I have been hated and shunned ever since 1996.

My ancestors of 1847, left Bavaria, for the wars.  Before the wars, Luther and Calvinist and such weaken Europe to have Hitler and Russia Communism take over.
For them to leave, they sold all, and took their chances and Trusted in God.  Eight weeks on "floating hell" ships.  And did best to make home in the US.

I would do my best to make sure you understand and the whole family understands why you are a Catholic.  What you believe and what "they"don't.  Why marrying a protestant is welcoming war.  Actions speak louder than words.

That is why Holy Mother Church did not agree to mix marriages.  I would frown very much too.  That is how wars may come about.

  • Well songbird, you are certainly blessed to have persevered in the faith despite all that.

It doesn't sound nice or friendly but we have to become aware that unbelievers, heretics, are cursed. That's what the word "anathema" means, viz. curse. The formula, let him be anathema, i.e. let him be cursed, has been used against those who hold to Protestant heresies for centuries by the Church (that's not to say that the Church curses anybody; the formula is "let him be cursed", i.e. allow him to curse himself if he so pleases). That is to say that Protestants are under a curse, with all other heretics and schismatics. That's why the Church has always prayed for them: that their curse be lifted.

    Quote
He that believeth in the Son, hath life everlasting; but he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

That is to say that if someone is not Catholic, the wrath of God "abideth on him". That's a hard saying but it's true. Remember that St. John shuddered when he met an unbeliever and was afraid to be in the same building as him lest a lightning bolt sent by God to strike the unbeliever also strike him. We also ought to shudder when we meet unbelievers, heretics, schismatics. We ought to make the sign of the cross before we shake their hands. If that sounds bizarre, uncharitable, even crazy, it's because the Masonic principles of religious indifferentism are in us, and we believe that friendly relations is more important than faith.

  • Well I dont disagree with any of what you have said. I  think we must be innocent as doves and sly as foxes to make it.

We usually say at least one decade or a whole rosary on the way to the protestants home. We often recite the st. Michael prayer.
The protestants surprized us one night and before the meal said the words In the Name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. We almost fainted. Now they didnt make the sign of the cross but we thought it good of them just the same.

Yes we try often to instill in our children why we are a 2000yr old church who founded us what makes us the true church. How our poor protestant friends are feathers in the wind. With 40 000 denominations and growing they are very much confused.

My kids are trying to adapt to seeing and hearing this very ecuмenical concillor catholic church. This last advertisment by pope francis is definetly the icing on the cake. I watched it at catholic Family News  John Veneri.

We have constantly prayed almost each morning for sure Sundays for our favorite protestant families for years. It gets disheartening to wait so long.

Father John Vianney only had to prostate and lay in an empty church for a month or two before it became over filled.

Wished we had the faith, and grace to convert as many as our noble humble saints did of old.

Mary conceived without sin Pray for Us

  • The problem with sheltering is that when they are grown they may befriend others who temp them away from the faith and overwhelm them with a world of things that they've never encountered. Has to be every parents greatest fear.

We have to learn to get along with people in our community as best as possible and keep the faith.
