Must I beg forgiveness?

  •  It is morning here, and I want to say my morning prayers. But I am afraid lest God should reject them.
Long story short: It was a quarreling last night. We were in the house of my maternal grandma. All the day I was mocked and humiliated by one of the guests there. I lost my patience at last and shouted and her and told her not to come to grandma's house when I am there too.
I don't think that I was the guilty party. ( my father often asks me not to assosiate with that annysome person)
Now am I obliged to phone her and ask for forgiveness, if I want my prayers to be accepted? I know that if I do so my father will be greatly displeased.
      What shall I do?

  • I believe that you should call and ask for forgiveness -- and let this be a lesson learned. I will try to find some quotes from my blog concerning this matter.

  • Sayings of Saint Philip Neri:

He who cannot put up with the loss of his honour, can never make any advance in spiritual things.

If a man finds it very hard to forgive injuries, let him look at a crucifix, and think that Christ has shed all His Blood for him, and not only forgave his enemies, but prayed the Eternal Father to forgive them also.

Let a man always think that he has God before his eyes.

In dealing with our neighbour, we must assume as much pleasantness of manner as we can, and by this affability win him to the way of virtue.

    -------

Take heart! You are far more holy than I.

  • St. Teresa of Avila also says that it is the masterstroke of Satan to deter those that are in a state of sin from mental prayer. You have no reason to be afraid!

I am assuming your father is still a Muslim. If that is the case, you will find yourself having to do many things as a Christian that he will be displeased about. Be afraid of displeasing God alone.

  • I think Vladimir's advise would probably be best. It's probably not the most satisfying answer, but perhaps you could apologize in such a way as to show the Catholic side of things. Perhaps he may be surprised.

In regards to being a responsible man, would it be interesting to learn, after six years of accuмulating all the wisdom you could, that you had it right all alon

Am I the only person here who thinks you're not obliged to do that?

Call and ask for forgiveness but the other person involved should also offer her apology for humiliating you. Also, I doubt what you did constitutes a mortal sin, even if you are in the state of mortal sin it is still vital to pray because those prayers will be valid after you make a good and valid confession. It is the work of the devil that tells you not to pray.

  • The main point of my rambling above is to never stop praying. Any thought that discourages prayer is from the evil one. God Bless.

  •   Clare, the reason I thought that I was obliged to apologize was the verse in Mattew chapter 5 verses 23 and 24.

If therefore thou offer thy gift at the altar, and there thou remember that thy brother hath any thing against thee; Leave there thy offering before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to thy brother: and then coming thou shalt offer thy gift.

    perhaps I misinterpreted it.

No, I think that you did good. How did it go, if I may ask?

Thanks all for your good advises and attention!

  • Spouse of Jesus,

Are you the only one in your family who is Christian? I am surprised that your father hasn't gotten more upset at the fact that you are Christian - considering the fact that many Muslims are known for getting violent when one of their family converts.

How did you end up becoming Catholic. How made you decide to become a traditional Catholic instead of a Novus Ordo Catholic?
