  • Post your motivational phrases here because I want to give up smoking.

I need some phrase to focus my will and empower myself to give up this vice.
Keep them short, about a paragraph at most, so i will remember them.
btw, This is an opportunity to program soulguard's brain.

  • Your body is a gift from God and a temple of the Holy Ghost. Do not damage it or attack it in any way.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • The tobacco companies didn't get rich by providing pure tobacco. No, they discovered all kinds of toxic additives to help keep you addicted.

The health insurance companies don't ask "do you smoke" because they like extra paperwork. No, it's a fact that smokers have poorer health (heart disease, emphysema, stroke, etc.)

If you smoked only 1/2 a pack a day, at $6 a pack that would be $1,095 a year! That's a nice chunk of change. A pack a day would be $2,190 a year. Especially today with taxes and all, cigarettes aren't cheap.

The cigarette companies are quite cynical about their customers, too. Anything as accessible as a cigarette (which anyone can do) can hardly make you "cool". The biggest dork or loser in the world could smoke a cigarette. The same brand as you, as a matter of fact!

  • Each year, we check the prices of cigarettes in each state. This year's results are in!

Smokers, flee New York City and head to Kentucky, where a pack of Marlboro Reds will cost you practically a third of what you’re paying now. And while you’re on the road, steer clear of New Hampshire and Vermont, too: the price for a pack has jumped 35% and 25%, respectively, over the past year.

We called a gas station—and oftentimes, when we were turned away or simply misunderstood, we called several—in the most populous city of every state in the nation and Washington D.C. and asked the clerk for the price of a pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes including tax. (Obviously, local prices will vary some.)

Here’s the current price, in bold, and also how the prices of cigarettes have changed since last summer.

    48. Kentucky (last year $6.56): $4.96 = -24%

    47. North Dakota ($5.03): $5.04 = +.2%

    46. West Virginia ($4.84): $5.07 = +5%

    45. Oklahoma ($5.24): $5.19 = -.1%

    44. Idaho ($5.11): $5.25 = +3%

    42. Louisiana ($6.50): $5.33 = -18%

    41. Oregon ($5.74): $5.35 = -7%

    40. Wyoming ($5.21): $5.37 = +3%

    39. Mississippi ($5.55): $5.45 = -2%

    38. Nevada ($6.04): $5.50 = -9%

    37. South Carolina ($6.25): $5.55 = -11%

    36. Colorado ($5.19): $5.59 = +8%

    35. Indiana ($5.56): $5.77 = +4%

    34. Alabama ($5.18): $5.80 = +12%

    33. Virginia ($5.43): $5.81 = +7%

    32. Ohio ($5.67): $5.88 = 4%

    31. Tennessee ($4.91): $5.89 = +20%

    30. Georgia ($5.93): $5.93 = 0%

    29. Minnesota ($5.96): $5.95 = -.2%

    28. Florida ($6.29), Delaware ($6.10): $6.00 = -5%, -2%

    27. North Carolina ($5.14): $6.03 = +17%

  • Wait a minute...Soulguard is from Ireland.

    http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081217080032AAwitrU

Cigarettes in Ireland are bloody expensive!

    8 euros a pack!

At a half a pack a day, that would be 1460 Euros a day, or about 2,000 US Dollars. If you smoke a pack a day, then double that figure (obviously).

  • I quit smoking a few years ago. It was hard for about a week, then it was easy. I found that I usually smoked when I had nothing else better to do. And when I kept busy I could go a long time without smoking. So if you are like me, find some work to do and that will help. Also, if you have nothing to do you could pray the rosary instead of smoking. Anyway good luck.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • Perhaps if you said a small prayer before and after each cigarette, this would eventually do the trick?

Not just a prayer without heart, but you know, however short a true prayer and put the mind to God.

    And/or simply cross yourself.

One victory leads to another! Defeat one trouble and others will fall more readily.
    Sincerely,

    Shin

Redneck to his Baptist preacher: "Revrund, is it true these here ceegarettes 'll send me to Hell?"
Baptist Preacher: "No, sir.  They'll just make you smell like you already been there."

St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

Good suggestion matto. The rosary is the solution to all our ills.

Yeah, what gets at me is that the church never condemned smoking. St Pius 10th smoked cigars. I am thinking, if its alright for him to do so, it is ok for me as well.

BUT if there was a formal condemnation of smoking by the church it would help motivate me. If it was a sin to smoke I should think that I would pay more attention to the fact that I am probably giving myself fatal diseases just for a moments pleasure. I ought to offer up my fustrations and go without smoking to follow the little way of St Therese, and by conquering my lower nature acquire the merits needed to go to heaven.

  • Problem is that I am a social smoker. Whenever I talk to people I feel the need to have a smoke.
It is part of my aloof eccentric genius image. When I go to the pub I bring tobacco, and the other smokers there encourage me in my vice, HOWEVER, I did meet a man in the pub who was telling me all these stories about the divil... and he said that the divil has 2 horns, but I only have one horn, since I have the faith but still am influenced by the evil one because I smoke. If i can conquer this vice I am sure other vices will fall also.

Moderation is the key. If you have real trouble with smoking or drinking in moderation,  not to excess,  then total abstinence may be a more fruitful approach.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • Prescription Chantix REALLY works.
It actually made quitting easy. But only if you don't have the side effects.
    You might check into it?

I had to do something different instead. A smoke break was always a little pause outside for a couple minutes. I did embroidery instead. Driving without smoking still stinks. I liked smoking.

     :smoke-pot:

     :detective:

Good luck! Pray to St Maximilian Kolbe, patron against addiction.

  • I don't know about your State, but in AZ, we have what is known as School Based and linked clinics.  These clinics take care of contraceptives to abortion.  The Tobacco TAX pays into these clinics.

Soulguard, There are many youtubes on the subject.  But I liked this one the best.
