  • My question is, should (stay at home) Mothers take naps during the day?  I don't mean if the baby kept her up the night before, but if she got the same amount of sleep as her husband, should she be allowed to take a nap?  If yes how long is too long?
I think most women will say, don't you want me to not be exhausted for when you come home?  ...But why should she be more exhausted than her husband at work, not including if a baby is keeping her up.
And yes there might be hormones that are making her tired, but She needs to fight those hormones.
Also if she took a 2 hour nap, which is how long some young children sleep for...that would mean 25% of the time her husband is working she is sleeping.  And the time she lost sleeping could have gone to teaching the children for a longer amount of time or doing more things around the house.
Also I can't imagine that faithful Catholic Wives throughout the centuries took very many naps during the day.

I would appreciate if any Moms or Fathers want to chime in on  this subject.

  • By the sound of it, you are the husband. Is that right?
You sound disgruntled/resentful. Am I right?
    How many children have you?
    Are you homeschooling them?
If so, is it something you have agreed on together?
How is your wife's general health?

Too brief an intro to make any other comment, as as you are new here we no nothing about your circuмstances. Tell us more...

"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • I am not exactly sure why this got such a negative response, I am asking about if a Mom gets enough sleep during the night why should she need a nap?  I don't think she should because there would be plenty of things to be done at home and it would not be necessary and she shouldn't because she should try and follow the cardinal virtues of diligence and temperance--not giving into sleep when she knows her body doesn't need it.

And no I am not a Husband, I was just asking a question.
And Stgobnait how was my question in any way implying abuse or even being a mean husband (if i was one)?

With this kind of attitude, probably will never be.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

    Wonderful!

Plenty of men out there are in need of this reminder.

  • My mom had 9 children.  She always, always, laid down with the children for naps. And the doctor told my mom to do whatever she could to get an hour for herself, whether she lock herself in the bathroom or drive away for a while.  And I took naps with my children as well. and when I was pregnant, I never left the bed except to go the the bathroom and eat till the 2nd or 3rd month til it passed with iron pills.  Women, mothers/ wives are not Wonder Woman.  Their work is more mind stressing than physical.

I'm not downplaying the work men do, but I'm strictly speaking about women here. We are different, we are expected to work, behave, and act differently due to our feminine/female nature. I don't understand why the OP thinks that the physical needs of men and women are the same.

I tend to think the sleep of most men more restful than that of mothers who literally sleep with one eye open. And I agree with you Song bird, pregnancy after pregnancy takes it's toll in and of itself, and that is beside the constantly active mind that being an alert and efficient mother requires.

This is all supposing that women actually are napping. I know if I attempt to take a nap it will take the good part of the allotted time just to settle down and put my mind to rest. I might only actually sleep 1/4 of that time or less.

According to this movie acting like a man is killing your brother and beating your wife......
You people are sounding like you are coming from a modernist perspective, and if you think that a woman is entitled to more sleep because she feels like it not because she needs it...you are a feminist.

  • tdrev,

Are you the one following ladies around at coffee hour, because it's your duty to inform people of their problems being a parent or their problems in being real Catholics?

I can't stand those people. They never know they are those people, either.

I don't know coffee hour is and I don't really understand what you are saying, why would someone inform people about their own problems? What problems in being a real catholic? I don't understand what you're referring to...
