Apparitions in the U.S.S.R.

According to an article which appeared in the December 30, 1976, issue of the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Valle di Aosta”, Our Lady has been appearing often in the U.S.S.R. in recent times. The article has been translated here freely from the "Cavaleiro da Imaculada”, Oporto, Portugal, for the benefit of Maryfaithful readers:

  The first apparition is said to have occurred on
        July 13,
1962, in the Janovai Collectivised Zone, in Skiacmonial, ίn Lithuania (one of the republics in the U.S.S.R.). Αn 18-year-old girl called Franzeska Ramova Macugs suddenly found herself surrounded by a strange light. Then she noticed a completely white altar, on which there were six lighted candles. Then she saw the Blessed Virgin dressed in white with a blue sash around her waist. With an expression, full of suffering on her face, she raised her arms in supplication and then disappeared.

  However, Franzeska did see her again. At this second apparition, she was standing on a white cloth which had small red crosses all over it. The Virgin said to her:"You have been chosen because of your simplicity!” and then added:
"Ι cannot save men from destruction, if they will not return to God!”

  Αn altar of white stones has been erected there. And though it has been destroyed by the Lithuanian C0mmunist Youth Movement over and over again, it has been rebuilt by the devotees time and time again. Subsequently, Mary is said to have appeared in a similar manner in various other parts of the U.S.S.R.:
in Rostov, in Kharkhov, in Leningrad, etc. Αs can be expected, these visits by the Queen of Heaven have aroused a very active renewal in religious fervour. The seers are said to have declared: "The Mother of God is appearing in various parts of our Fatherland in order to open our eyes. She wants us to pray more fervently to her Son so that the world may be saved from destruction."

So, just 5 months before the Vatican Council II. Spiritual destruction is worse than material destruction.
