  • SALT LAKE CITY AP—For the first time in 183 years, a woman will lead a closing prayer at the semi-annual gathering of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Church leaders announced Saturday that Jean A. Stevens would lead the morning session's closing prayer for more than 100,000 members of the church who've gathered in Salt Lake City for two-day general conference, and the millions more watching via satellite, radio or Internet broadcast.
A feminist group launched a campaign in January asking church leaders to let women lead the opening and closing prayer at the conference as a symbol of gender equality.
Women can hold many leadership positions in church but aren't allowed to be bishops or stake presidents.
The conference takes place all day Saturday and continues Sunday.

  • Feminism is being pushed more and more these days, it seems.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I suspect a similar "groundbreaking announcement" from the Vatican under Francis.  Something along the lines of, "For the first time in history, a woman will participate in the next papal conclave as Francis has appointed the first woman cardinal," or, even more likely, "Not seen since biblical times, the Vatican has announced that Francis will ordain three women."  (I say the "Not seen since bibilical times" because of the falsehood that is prevalent today that the Church ordained women in the early Church.)

So, the natural question is, how will trads react?

I'm not very optimistic that they will really be strongly against it.

  • I hope nobody confuses having multiple wives with some sort of anti-feminism?  Or belief in abortion as being submissive?

Mormons do not even believe in the Holy Trinity.  They believe they are gods.  Their ceremonies are literally masonic.  They spent a huge fortune in public relations and sometimes I worry that good Catholics are falling for their evil lies. Before about 30 years ago, no nominal Protestant group ever considered this sect Christian.

They already have a strong female presence in the military and intelligence, so this move is just window dressing.

It's a few years since I encountered Mormons. We discussed a few things and they returned two weeks later. I prepared a few topics for them. After our second encounter, they never called to the house again.

It's usually the men folk who go door to door but a friend of mine recalls encountering Mormon women.

Once outside a bookshop, women, who were Jehovah's Witnesses approached me.

  • Elizabeth, it's not to agree with Mormonism to point out that they are caving into the demands of feminists.

Speaking for myself, I would react with something like:

"The sede just got vacante." at least as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know if something like that will happen -- we'll see.

    Matthew,

This is the first time I have ever seen anyone tell me, in advance, that there is any line that, if crossed, would definitely lead to the belief that the Holy See is vacant.

Perhaps there are more like you in the traditional, non-sedevacantist, Catholic world, but I fear you may be a lone wolf, or at least, a pretty lonely wolf.

In any event, if the Holy See truly is vacant, I would pray that a sign such as this that will not even fool the elect should come soon.  The syncretistic signs posted have already convinced me.

  • Mormonism is a false cult sect so let them embrace whatever repulsive practice they so choose.

Mormonism seems to be going from one bizarre extreme to another.
"Never will anyone who says his Rosary every day become a formal heretic ... This is a statement I would sign in my blood." St. Montfort, Secret of the Rosary. I support the FSSP, the SSPX and other priests who work for the restoration of doctrinal orthodoxy and liturgical orthopraxis in the Church. I accept Vatican II if interpreted in the light of Tradition and canonisations as an infallible declaration that a person is in Heaven. Sedevacantism is schismatic and Ecclesiavacantism is heretical.
