Oh that's a laugh, I grew up a mile from Star of the Sea, and believe you me there is no worse example of catholic community than that.
The latin mass community is not even part of star of the sea. SOTS started out all charismatic with a special pro-life "charism." After the owner/founder moved away, his crony stole tons of money from the people living/moving there and skipped town.
After trying to build themselves back together a bit, the community became no more than a pit of gossip, hatred, and backstabbing. Kids who lived "off" the community property were completely excluded with their parents from any and all SOTS activities.
You had one or two people rise up and become self-appointed rule-makers who made life hell for anyone who wasn't in "the club." I remember one wealthy family from Florida who built a beautiful ranchy/farm type property there and they were wonderful. They were kind and inviting and for a few months things were nice...then they moved to Atlanta and STOS went to pot again.
You have a colorful mix there from the Y2K people, who are there because they can build bomb shelters and collect bulk prison-grade food without anyone knowing. You have the real trads who actually care about things but in SOTS they kind of float along by their lonesome. You also have the Charismatics who have prayer groups and healing, and so forth. It's super interesting, but not a traditional community.
St. John the Babptist Latin Mass Community is an oasis in the desert. There is a great priest, and a fairly good organized system. They celebrate feast days and so forth together. Although many of the people from SOTS go to the Latin mass there is a bit of a different spirit there...a bit. If a family moved to the nearby and beautiful city of Cherokee Village they would maybe be able to lead a somewhat normal life.
I just wouldn't recommend it...ever...to anyone...ever.
P.S. Along with that "low cost of living" is the low or no money making. There are no jobs there. Half the men who land there become carpenters and there is only so much work to go around. Then you the inventive types who try to start internet cafe's or other modern type businesses which never work very well. (this is AR we are talking about, half of the people there can't spell internet) The only ones it really works for are retired types and those who use SOTS more as a vacation home, less as a real home. I remember one really nice father who worked freakishly hard as a carpenter to support his family, he did beautiful work and tried his best. He was pretty much starving because no matter how much work he did, it was still AR, and he was still trying to feed 8 kids + wife.
