  • Despite what you may think of Joan Crawford I was curious as to if you believed in the authenticity of this film?

  • I read somewhere that the adopted daughter who wrote the book had issues about mommy cutting off her allowance. While Crawford was probably not the nicest lady, I doubt she was the evil monster portrayed in the movie.
eta: wiki said the book was written after Joan died and it was revealed she left nothing to the author in her will.

Who cares? She was the antithesis of Catholic, for she was divorced 3 times, and she sported the modernist short hair while she raised 2 children on her own - another deluded act of feminism.

You forgot the biggest sin of all- starring in Hollywood movies.

I have never been a fan of Joan Crawford movies to tell you the truth. The part about her being vain and self-absorbed about herself was no doubt true as many Hollywood actresses were like that. That part about her having affairs with men and possibly women was also true. That part about her being a braud was also quite true. As to the allegations of child abuse I personally believe it though I guess only Christina and Joan herself, long dead, knows the truth, so one must be lying to themselves and others about that.

Of course though I am bashing Joan pretty hard here, which she should be criticised, I am also not defending Christina either. She's been divorced, gone through husbands (just like her mother), has no children, and exhibited a spoiled and diva-like attitude that her acting partners never liked just like her mother (and one reason her acting career was a total failure).

  • I think the book and movie were an adopted daughter's ugly form of revenge and it's very convenient that these stories came out after Joan Crawford passed away.

Joan Crawford left her fortune to one of the other adopted children so it's likely that the woman who wrote the book was always a troublemaker and a source of irritation and betrayal to Ms. Crawford.
