Yeah I know... but wouldn't it be funny if the sales pitch backfires? How do you tell them "flaunt it all" and next year "respect yourself," and the year after "scratch that... flaunt it again!"
The only way to get teen aged girls (at least the majority of them) to put on clothes, is by telling them the truth: what it means for their dignity when they dress like hookers. Problem (for the fashion industry) is, once they know that, it just might stick, even if for more practical reasons than moral ones... Very few girls have the figure and looks of a supermodel... least of all at 11, 12 or 13. But if you tell a girl who thinks she's totally worthless because she hasn't got a figure like Barbie's, that she should respect herself, value herself, treat herself with dignity because she deserves it... that's something all girls can do, no matter what their bust or waist size. And if by some miracle she listens and tries it, she's going to suddenly feel much better about herself. After that, is she really going to want to switch back to the hooker standard, by which she's dirt?
So lets just hope the truth gets out there, and that this "trend" becomes the norm. Hey, in my state I've seen public billboards with messages about chastity... "respect yourself" and all that. Nobody wants to believe they're trash just because they're not tramp enough. Modesty has the upper hand, because it is based not only upon self respect and worth, but also because it's true... whereas it isn't at all true that looking a hooker makes you anything else. The quality of life is different for girls who live this self respect, and how they view themselves is different. If all the girls can discover that, even by accident... hey... I don't care what starts it. It just might not go away with the next fashion season like the companies might think.
Not that they really care. If they can make a buck doing it, they'll sell women clown costumes. (It certainly wouldn't be any less bizarre or ridiculous than much of what I see in the womens' clothes catalogs.)
