Sure, the man might have "paid his dues" and was hard working back in the day, but what about lately?

In other words, I think some of his reputation for "hard work" might be resting on his laurels.

Why do I say that?

It's not exactly the hallmark of hard working to have *two children*. Especially two older kids, who take care of their own laundry, sweep the kitchen & living room, take care of the dishes, etc.

Sounds like mom & dad have plenty of free time. Speaking as a parent of 4 young children, I can say I'd have a lot more free time if I only had 2 and they were older!

And what are mom & dad doing with their free time? Playing around on their own computer/tablet/laptop, and other gadgets? There has to be a reason Hannah thinks she should be doing less work. Maybe the parents are engaging in a bit of "do as I say, not as I do."

We're not getting the whole story here.

a trad Catholic would have tried a different method but this is a typical American 2 child family that finds nothing wrong with contraception.

It is probably the fathers fault for his daughter's behavior

But it's not like he's getting upset because she's going astray or losing her soul. He wants her to get a job outside the house at 15 -- that's not going to make her non-worldly. In fact, it would make it EASIER for her to find a boyfriend, etc. Not exactly something a Catholic would be pushing.

He also has no problem with materialism -- as long as "she works for it".

Indeed, I smelled the "Protestant work ethic" all over this story right away.

This appeals to a segment of the population who are rightfully tired of children bullying their parents.  Of course, shooting a computer because your daughter mouthed off a little on Facebook is a stupid thing to do that can only be appreciated by cretinized Americans.  But then, this is a nation with an insatiable appetite for animalistic, moronic, knuckle-dragging stupidity in all forms, where someone is considered more trustworthy if they have bad grammar, show they're "regular guys" by watching football and reading comic books, and claim not to speak furrign languages.

ONLY in America could some goateed guy in a ten-gallon hat shooting a computer be seen as admirable.  It is ludicrous.  Dig this up in fifty years when America is a distant memory and you will see how surreal the environment we live in really is.  This Wild West image that people have been sold as denoting "authenticity" is nothing but pure Fellini weirdness.
