IN 1984, Gary Plauche shot and killed Jeffrey Doucet in front of a news crew and FBI agents. Doucet had kidnapped and molested Gary's 11 year old son. Doucet was his son's karate instructor.

Plauche was sentenced to 300 days community service and 5 years of probation.

If you are interested in seeing the shooting, you can find it on YouTube, it was filmed live by the news crew. I won't post it here but will say it is not bloody.

What do you think of the sentence ?

As long as he serves it helping the community as a volunteer, teaching trainees how to massage feet and head, neck and shoulders, as a practice patient, and also testing the beer at his local brewery I'd say justice has been served.

After 300 hours, however, I would suggest that his community should thank him by erecting a statue in his honour. Colt should name a large handgun in his honour and call it "The Daddy".

I remember this case from when I was in HS, it was big news in the day.

The karate instructor was poor and living out of the gym- Gary had befriended him and let him take showers at the family home and let him have dinner there. They completely trusted him. He was molesting his son on a daily basis for over a year. In fact he was molesting a lot of boys and told the FBI he could not even count how many.

An uncle had told Gary that he saw Jeff kiss his son on the lips but Gary was in complete denial.

One day Jeff picked up the kid for a short errand and took off with him. He called the mother collect and told her they were in New York city. Actually they were in LA (Anaheim). They went to Disneyland. Of course, the calls were traced and he was arrested in the hotel room. The boy who was blonde had his hair dyed black.

The guy had no plans and very little money. I think it was going to end in a murder ѕυιcιdє.

Back at this time no one even heard of the term "pedophile". I never even heard that term ever used until I was in college in the 1990s. It was never even common to hear about this kind of stuff on the news. I think that cable news and competitiveness and sensationalism in the media changed all of that.

Sensationalism?

Making people more aware of pedophiles, how countless they are and how they operate isn't what I'd call sensationalism.

Having thought about it some more, I think the double jeopardy law should be lifted and this killer sentenced to further real incarceration for several more weeks at the Four Seasons in Maui, just to contemplate what he did back then.

Since, the US tax payer is cash strapped I will gladly put up the first 500 dollars so that justice can be done. Let's rehabilitate this man and make society safer as a result.

I think the sentance was unjust if it was for the killing. If it was for discharging a weapon in town or endangering those people there then it would be OK. Maybe he should have done it elsewhere or with a different weapon.

This guy s still alive and says if he could dig up the molesters body, he would shoot him again. His wife was mad because he did not tell her he was going to do it so she could have at least driven the car,

My meaning here is that back then we had maybe five local channels and the news at an hour or half an hour at a time, most of this stuff never got reported. Now, when you have countless news channels going 24 hours a day a lot more things get covered and the news is more competitive.

The deal that gets me about this case,

If it were today and he were given a similar sentence, you would have some federal prosecutor filing federal charges against him for civil rights violations.
