A wife is a help mate. Why does a man need to have a house in place before finding a wife? If you live in a one bedroom apartment, that is enough to start a family.

There is a little 2 story cabin I drive pass sometimes. It is 200 square feet and it housed a family of 10 in like 1780.

That’s a really cute cabin. I wouldn’t at all mind living in it. With 10 children? Maybe a bit tight, but I’m guessing they had very minimal furniture and belongings. It probably has a loft where one could put out some hay under canvas and sheep wool blankets. With the fire going, wool, hay, and body heat, it’d be pretty cozy.

Many newly weds used to live with their parents until they could afford a house (Ven.  Anna Maria Taigi's family comes to mind and they were quite poor).  All of my brothers temporarily boarded with my parents for a year or two after being married.  😇
