Notes she was a "devout Catholic" and maybe so, but also, she starred in the Jєωιѕн made, pro-Rothschild movie:

said movie, though, inadvertantly did show the seemy side of family. can view free:

or Judth Sharpe at Spirit of Chartres is giving out free copies....got mine Saturday and viewed it....

  • Loretta Young was a lovely actress.  She was active in film and television from the 1920's through the 1960's.  She was in "A Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant, among many others.  She also had a very-Catholic T.V. Show called "The Loretta Young Show" in the 1950's.

She authorized a biography before her death which details her life in a very nice way.  She repented of her sins and lead an exemplery life in penance for her sins for the last few decades of her life.

She, Irene Dunne and  Jane Wyman were all Catholics ... all actresses during the early days of Hollywood....Jane Wyman fell far afield of her faith during her younger years, but repented of her sins and ultimately became a third order nun, I can't remember the order, but she was buried in a habit when she died.

BTW: Jane Wyman was Ronald Reagan's first wife.

Irene Dunne was a rarity in Hollywood.  She was married only once, to a dentist, and was devoutly Catholic.  She starred in several films with Cary Grant in the 30's and 40's and has largely been forgotten except by classic film buffs.

She was quoted as having said that she was "In Hollywood, but not of Hollywood."

  • Those were they days. Such ladies those three were. And, I have seen the Loretta Young show on EWTN during the holidays.
I know someone who was walking on the beach one day and happened to see none other than Loretta Young. What was she doing? Walking on the beach while very plainly praying her Rosary.

  • Yes, those were the days.  They were LADIES.    They had dignity and class.   I think that the only woman I know that is alive that I can say the same about today is Dr. Alice Von Hilldebrand.

  • I love her. You know I have some of her books on being a woman. I always kid Grandma that she looks like Dr. Von Hildebrand as her hair is the same color and when I cut it the hair falls exactly like that classy lady.

  • She also made Come to the Stable.  Her role as mother superior and Celeste Holm was also in it.
I believe Rosalin Russell and Maureen O'Hara were also good Catholic ladies.

  • I love watching old movies with these stars in them. It was indeed a Catholic world back then. There was morality!

  • Let's not get carried away now.  Nothing worse than thinking that the "good ole' days" were something they weren't.

Hollywood had a very strict Hays Code to follow back then that is long gone now.  MGM had an abortionist on the staff.  Actors and actresses were just as immoral back then but in their contracts there were moral clauses that they couldn't violate without suffering the consequences.  Even Loretta Young had a child out of wedlock.  I wouldn't consider Rosalind Russell a moral woman (although I really did like her in The Trouble With Angels).

Let's put it this way.  No one (except for those who are the offspring or relative of someone in the business) makes it in Hollywood with their morals intact.

  • TC 72, You and I are in the same age group and yes we do remember some very happier times.  Sad to see some of the younger folks have no idea what we experienced back then.  It's a much different world now.
A dear old nun told me to remember that, "memories are like roses in the snow".  I believe God gave us a lovely gift of memories.

Oh, my!  Then I truly do beg pardon.  I always like to meet real oldtimers.  They have a lot to teach us.  Feel free to share your memories of the Church with us TC.

    Do you believe in Necedah?

And, think, all of this because of Loretta Young!!
