The risk of divorce goes up by 40 percent for commuters and the risk is the highest in the first few years of commuting.

  • Interesting study. Certainly came from uber-PC Sweden..

“One of the long-term risks with commuting is that it can sustain gender-based stereotypes both at home and in the labour market,” Sandow said.

I guess this is the part where I am supposed to be horrified for my "Swedish sisters" stuck in gender-based stereotypes.

Other conclusions made sense to me.

On a personal side, my dh has had a commute of 45-90 minutes most of our married life. For the first few weeks he had a 10 minute walk as we lived in a city. Then a 25 minute commute by car and then it got longer from there. About 4 years of a 90 minute commute. That was toughest as all our children were really young. For the last 10 years it has been about 45 minutes and it is what we are used to. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if he came home for lunch like my friend's husband does. It just isn't what we are used to. Same way, our late dinner boggles most guests. We typically eat at 8 give or take 30 minutes so we eat as a family.
