Yuk. There is a segment of the population that doesn't want sleaze (including homo sleaze) in the television programing that they view. Lifetime has always had a sleaze element, which is why I don't watch it.
Many of the Hallmark productions don't have a sleaze element, but a few of them do. I subscribe to the Hallmark channel, since we don't have cable TV. So far, I've not seen much homo stuff in the Hallmark films, but that's probably coming down the road too.
Due to the needs and sensibilities of extended family members for whom I provide in-home care, we do have cable. Hallmark is one of our pre-set channels, Lifetime is not. If it were not for the family situation, I would have no cable or paid TV --- I only "need" a television set for news, an occasional movie, videos, and reruns of old wholesome family shows (to the extent that anyone "needs" those things). Aside from that I have no use for TV.
One tactic that was extremely effective back in the 1980s was the boycott --- keep track of who advertises on the offending shows and networks, refuse to buy their products or services (unless there is no other reasonable alternative), and let the networks and the advertisers know. I refuse to buy Chobani yogurt because of their commercial showing a nude (implied) lesbian couple in bed --- the one with the woman who looks like Caroline Kennedy -- and I don't patronize Moe's Southwest Grill or Advance Auto Parts/CarQuest due to their support for JDRF and embryonic stem cell research (slaughter of newly conceived children). Moe's is a sacrifice --- their fast-casual quasi-Mexican food is the best, bar none, and budget-priced --- but I don't want the first words I hear in the afterlife to be
"Welcome To Hell!".
