Terrifying I agree. A friend in her 30s asks AI about whether a man is interested in her judging from his texts… weird….cant she tell this herself?

My children like reading but hate maths and say why do this when a calculator or computer can do it and I say if you don’t use your brain cells they’ll shrink like a muscle. None of them have social media. The older ones only have brick phones like in the 2000s. Fortunately they don’t care (yet!!) but the pressure is immense. One of their friends is always on a computer game and they keep trying to hide the controls from him.

  • In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. Anyone who can actually read, write and do maths will become the new elite

  • It's becoming all about writing simple texts and watching videos.  I guess I'm old school, but I dislike this phenomenon of "hey, watch this video", sometimes those videos are a half-hour long.  I can read a summary of the points made in a video in seconds.  I prefer the printed word.  That video is a half-hour of my life I'll never get back, and at my age, I have far more yesterdays than tomorrows.

And at the risk of sounding curmudgeonly, I also dislike these "how-to" videos that go through all this fol-de-rol of discussing this and that, setting up the scenario, and so on.  Just tell me how to do what you did.

Almost every youtube video now has a "Show  transcript" button in the description below the video. When you click it, the transcription comes up to the right of the video.
You can copy and paste that to where ever you like. It's VERY useful to avoid having to watch videos. You can read through the transcription quickly, or even to a Ctrl and F search, and get what you need.

Youtube is great for learning things especially when you need things to be done slowly to allow you to process and reflect. But for looking up information it can be frustrating, which is why this show transcript thing is a life saver.
