  • A federal district court has a dismissed a lawsuit filed by Father Ray Leonard, a civilian chaplain who was temporarily barred from celebrating Mass at a naval base during the government shutdown.

Father Leonard filed his lawsuit on October 14; according to the court decision, the priest was informed on the following day that he could continue to celebrate Mass at the base despite the shutdown. The court dismissed Father Leonard’s claim because he is not suffering ongoing injury and “because the likelihood that these events will reoccur is, at best, speculative.”

  • Sounds like a frivolous lawsuit.

  • I don't think it was frivolous. During the government shutdown the priest was told that if he said mass at the base he would be arrested. At the same time there were Protestant services going on.
On rule for Catholics another for Protestants.

Also, services were allowed for the Moslems, and the Jєωs.

But when the priest showed up to say mass for the people there he was not allowed to say mass. He was told that in his case if he attempted to say mass he would be arrested. There were approximatly 300 people who went without mass that day.
