  • Went grocery store to look for butter lamb.  There was none.  In its place there were butter bunnies.  I went to main counter to manager. Manager called me back and said no lambs just bunnies from Kellers company.   This is a disgrace.
May God bless you and keep you

Not to sound sarcastic, but our whole society is a disgrace.

  • I remember my Babczie carving the Baranek Bozy (Lamb of God) from a pound of butter at Easter and we kids used a toothpick and paper to make the banner and coconut dyed green for the grass around it.

I guess the Slavic peoples make it of butter, but the custom of southern Germans is to weave it using bread dough. When baked it makes a beautiful lamb. One mostly sees it in Bavaria. Bavaria is famous for the breads produced.

    My grate-grate grandma was Bavarian.

  • Yes, I observed traditional Catholic Mothers take butter lambs and put flags into them.
I have always used lamb butter because Lamb of God.

I have noticed still a lot of butter bunnies remain on the shelf.

What flag is used for butter lamb.

May God bless you and keep you

  • The banner is the same as you might see in pictures in old prayer books.  White banner with a cross on it.  For some reason, I don't remember why, we alwys made the cross red.

Noticed a few places including Ebay have molds to make the lamb.  I guess you just use soft, room temperature butter in the mold and then put it in the frig.  Easy for us who are not sculptors.

  • Just a thought.
Butter molds are expensive but the 2 piece (front and back) cake molds are around $10.
The two cakes when done are put together, standing up, with icing.  When the lamb is covered in icing , coconut can be put on all over, except the face to look like wool.
Smarties for eyes and green dyed coconut for grass that it's laying on.
Would make a lovely centerpiece for Easter and a great conversation piece to teach the children.
