Keep Him in Prison

Philadelphia district attorney Seth Williams has said that he will fight to keep Msgr. William Lynn in prison, even after an appeals court reversed the priest's conviction.

Msgr. Lynn, a former vicar for clergy in the Philadelphia archdiocese, was convicted of endangering children in 2012, for having failed to inform police about child-abuse complaints. That conviction was overturned by an appeals court in 2013, then reinstated by Pennsylvania's Supreme Court in April 2015. Earlier this month another appeals court overturned the verdict on different grounds.

Williams said that he plans to appeal the latest decision, and promised to use every resource of his office to keep Msgr. Lynn behind bars. The priest has already served two years of a three-to-six year prison sentence.

What I would like to know is where is the archdiocese of Philadelphia in all of this? Will Mgr Lynn be a priest in good standing when he gets out of prison?

Child endangerment is an extraordinary failing of the New Church, but this sounds deeply vindictive.
