This isn't as farfetched as it sounds. Replace ancient aliens giving the ancient Egyptians advanced technology with ancient demons teaching them magical rituals. Replace ancient aliens coming back from outer space with ancient demons coming back into the open after being driven underground by Christ and his apostles.
The return of the aliens is the return to open worship of demons (and probably the human sacrifice that goes with it). St. Augustine talks about the old idols that were sacrificed to being demons in book viii of his City of God.

Sounds very peculiar but the history of the past 500 years might well have just been the history of Satan and his demons spreading the secularist idea that spirits do not exist, so that they can reintroduce themselves to humanity not as "gods", like they did before, but as secular figures: ancient aliens from another planet that seeded DNA onto our planet and oversaw our evolution - thus they would be our creators. edit: and that would make people preaching this idea of outer space and aliens and so on false prophets preparing mankind for a great deception where they would worship demons believing them to be "extraterrestrial aliens".
