One thing to keep in mind in the construction trades is that you will be around
men every day who are vile, earthy, profane, crass and eager to share
salacious jokes. So if you're ready to endure a lifetime of that, then, go for it.
Carpentry is okay, but plumber, electrician and heavy equipment operator
pay better. Like someone said, everyone has an opinion about carpentry,
but most don't know much about these other trades.
Also there is pre-wire and installation and repair of high-tech systems
for home and business. I knew a guy who primarily did retrofit, and he said
it made no difference to him if they brought him in after the fact, when the
walls were covered in new construction. He said "it's all in the hourly." He
charged $75 an hour, and it's probably more now. That was 15 years ago.
