How did the ultimatum come about?

Their house in the suburb is being foreclosed so they have to move.

Your grandparents have been on this earth much longer than you have & have experienced more than you so if I were you I'd take a good long look at myself & them

They may have been on this earth longer, but I definitely have more experience in life; in terms of lack of social justice for the worker, in terms of the reality of race, in terms of seeing how fruitless a desire to hoard and spend money is, etc. I have interacted with Jews while they have not ever met a Jew in their life and I also try to make myself a good Traditional Catholic while they are deists.

They must think a lot of you & love you to invite you to move with them, for starters.  Why are they moving & how far away are they moving?  Why are you calling it an ultimatum as if they're kicking you out of their lives?

Well I am not calling into question if they "love" me or not but it was an ultimatum since they told me that I would agree with their political views or I would stay far away from them.

Before we go any further, I got the impression from you when you first started here that you were a young, know-it-all guy that didn't REALLY know it all.  I would think long & hard about this "ultimatum".  It looks more like an invitation to me. There must be a good reason why older people would up & move to another state.  What is that reason?  Have you bothered to ask them?

Well I'm not trying to appear as a know-it-all however I do know a lot more than your average bimbo these days. :wink: Anyway their house is in foreclosure so they have to move.

After you've answered all these questions, then make up your mind whether you want to stay or to accept their gracious invitation to move with them.  Maybe, just maybe, this move will be all for the best - for all of you.  

Hmm well let me put it this way, it would take a miracle for me to get along with their political views. As they were calling me a Communist I told them that my hero General Franco fought ruthlessly against the Red Republicans in Spain while their hero, Mr. Bush, was converted to a liberal and Trotskyist ideology called neoconservatism.

Trad Guy, sorry to burst your bubble but you wouldn't have to know much to be superior to the average graduate of government schooling.

Government schooling in and of itself is not a bad thing, it depends on what is taught in them. Anyway, the baby boomers were the most educated and affluent generation to date.

Do your grandparents even know what you're talking about?  Many people are not familiar with the terms, expressions & ideologies that you may know.  You will never, ever get them to see your point of view by CLASHING with them.  Have you given them a few pamphlets (books are sometimes too lengthy & involved to get them interested)  & ASK what they think of it?  Have you ever had a  talk or friendly discussion with them to find out WHY they think as they do?  Sometimes people have different viewpoints than you & are still good people overall.

Well I guess I know why my grandmother became a feminist, i.e. she was poor and feminists offered her a job, etc. so she was Democratic until the Reagan election. My grandfather served in Vietnam and first voted as a Republican for Barry Goldwater and I knew his family was anti-FDR so I guess that's why he believes in the nonsense of the GOP. Anyway "good" is a subjective term since someone may treat you descently in public but despise you in private. And yes I do clash with them but they also try to mock and make fun of my views. And yes I have tried to explain it but they refuse to listen.

As for hoarding  (what are they hoarding?)  & spending money  (what are they spending it on?), why is this a problem with you? Is it because they don't give you any or what you think, is enough?

I've never asked them for anything and have always tried to pay them back when I could but no I was speaking of them spending money in general on useless consumerism while they mock me for spending money on my bare necessities like food and clothing. And when I mean hoarding money I mean having an obsession with a love of money and how prosperous they are.
 

Are they really telling you that you MUST change your political views?  You must be very vocal with your views for them to be so opposed to you.

Sure I'm vocal but so are they. For them always talking about how "conservative" and on the Right they are (so they say) they bitterly oppose my traditional right-wing views.
