  • According to my 1958 calendar, yes.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • I take it that you refer to abstinence, not fast, as there have not been any fast days during Eastertide for several centuries at the least, if ever. Is that assessment correct? Your question, thus, would seem to be whether in Catholic practice, as we Traditionalists understand it, the usual rule of Friday abstinence is dispensed for Easter Friday. The answer to that question is no, as Mithrandylan has already written.

I trust, however, that you understand that very, very few Trad priests and bishops teach that the preconciliar rules for fast and abstinence continue to bind under pain of mortal sin. Some of the Trad laity, especially here at CathInfo, are rigorists in this matter, but I think that even here, the majority of Trads believe, along with both Resistance and SSPX clergy, that the observance of the preconciliar practice is commendable, even highly desirable, but not binding in the strict sense.

  • I know in the Ukrainian Rite it is, but I'm not certain whether that's pre Vatican II or not.  I know the Eastern *Orthodox* don't abstain this week, and they're usually a lot stricter on fasting.

I didn't abstain today, for the absolute nothing that's worth.
