  • If there's enough interest I'd suggest / request trying one of the shorter catechisms next. Maybe create a poll, see what people are interested in?

Catechisms are a great idea, and even things like Jone, etc. ... there are so many materials that would be of value.

Now, they can be read online of course ... but where the value in converting them to audio is in allowing people to fill time where they can't be reading, e.g. if they're driving (commuting to work), or cleaning the house, or doing yardwork, or getting some exercise, etc. ...

We used to be told that if you could spend 15 minutes per day reading Sacred Scripture and 15 minutes doing some other spiritual reading, it would be of great benefit to your soul.  Well, everybody has 30 minutes they can at least listen to something even if they're unable to sit down and read.

  • At any rate ... I'll plug away at this slowly at first, see if there's interest and some people want to donate, and then if people begin to donate ... perhaps we could put up suggestions and allow people to vote on them.

Other than that, it would have to be just a part-time labor of love kind of thing.  I put together Bishop Williamson's classes, and I do believe people liked those.  It's just that ... it does take some time, and the donations might be to just help accelerate the effort.

I'm trying to develop a systematic and repeatable process.  Once I've extracted, proof-read, and phonetically modified the text (if needed), I need to save that out.  That way if, in the future, the technology improves, or else we want to have alternative versions in different voices, it would be much easier and we wouldn't have to redo the entire effort.

  • Bp. Williamson's Letters from the Rector would be a good one, especially if you could feed AI a bunch of recordings of him only speaking, so it can learn his style, and replicate his voice.
"Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect."
"Seek first the kingdom of Heaven..."
"Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment"

So, the best AI tools allow for voice cloning, where you could feed in audio of Bishop Williamson's voice.  Now, not sure I would want to do that, though, since people might mistakenly think it's him speaking, whereas with a narrator, it would be obvious that it's not he reading.

  • I've been mulling over domain names, messing with Latinized variations on audio books, and finally came up with a spin on the famous audible.com website.

I figured that Latin is unnecessary since at the beginning we'll almost exclusively be targetting English.  We can revisit other domains later.

But I've obtained the domain names for ... cathaudible.com + .org, .net, .info, .store

CathAudible ... basically a Catholic Audible.  Except of course we won't be selling audio books, but giving them away, and then requesting donations from those who can afford it or want to contribute to the effort.

I've had a couple folks contact me, so I'll be looking into ...

    1) getting a Team license for the software necessary
    2) thoroughly working out and docuмenting the process we need to follow, to make it repeatable and with consistent "deliverables", including saving out the text in order to more easily replicate the effort in case the tech improves or we want to create alternative "voices" for the same content

I'll probably throw up a rudimentary website that consists almost exclusively of links to the first materials, but then later as more are added, we can add a bit of a search engine, and we'll have a "Donate" button at the top.

I'll be getting an LLC set up, then a business checking account, and a PayPal set up against it in order to send donation to.

I think that for the early contributors, I'll just ask them to keep track of the hours they put in, since we have no revenue stream and cannot pay, but then if we start getting donations coming in, we can make sure they get grandfathered in for compensation.

  • So, I've been seriously considering converting a bunch of Traditional Catholic books into Audio Books.  I believe that many people could benefit from it.  It's very time-consuming, but I'm thinking that I would accept free-will donations from people who think that the books are of value to them, with the intention of funding more of the same.  So, the more people donate, the more time I could devote to generating these (and the less I would have to work at my "day job").

Here's the first section ... Part I, Chapter I, (section) 1 from St. Alphonsus' Glories of Mary.  I'll work on this regardless, but I'm hoping that enough people will donate to be able to spend more time on it rather than just a few hours one a week or something.

    Excellent work, Ladislaus.
Just this brief recording alone is so encouraging. Everyone should listen to it again and again.
