  • That's actually what I wanted to ask.

I have to write a paper on this topic and am looking for good ideas to start. I'm not asking anyone to write my paper for me, just trying to find good ideas to build on.

I have considered using some elements of Pascal's Pensees - the sections that have to do with men liking to deceive each other; also have considered some of Michael Hoffman's and Bishop Williamson's writings on political correctedness, etc but for the most part I haven't really put any of these ideas together yet in any sort of intelligible form.

  • When you think of the word "civility" think of civilization, so think of the manners that are needed to preserve civilization.

     :applause:

Incredible. Yes I made that connection. Also "society" with "social".

    Thank you!

  • On that note I'd say that for a civilization to thrive there must be communication between persons, and for communication to work there must be truth and honor.

So I'd say that two of the important pillars of civilization are honor and trust. Basically speaking, a man who fulfills his promises, is truthful, and does not back stab, manipulate, or deceive, is an extraordinary asset to the community and a perfect example of a civilized man.

In regards to being a responsible man, would it be interesting to learn, after six years of accuмulating all the wisdom you could, that you had it right all alon

  • The only book I ever bought from TIA, was the "Catholic Manual of Civility." I'm sure if you went to their website, you could read it. It was translated from Portuguese, and revised to reflect the times we live in, but ALL Brazilian boys in Catholic School years ago had to go through this book. :) It's great.

Some of the chapters are on their website underneath this introduction.

  •   True. but whose civility? How much civility?
It is too subjective I'm afraid.

Great book, and great site. It has been on my list for some time now, and that site has some great articles. Very good.
