  • According to Catholic faith we all have a personal guardian angel.
Sadly you never hear much about them. When did you last think about yours?

Can you imagine the sadness of an atheist's angel, or that of a sinner who never repents?
Surely our guardian angel is given to us for a certain reason.
    How does this happen?
I would like to bond with mine now. How best can I do that?
Did any saint tell us how best to contact our guardian angel??

  • I talk to mine all the time.  Of course, there's the daily prayer to our Guardian Angel, which I pray in my morning & evening prayers.  But I also often ask him for help during the day.  And I thank him for being such a good friend to me.

If you don't mind, I'll post some pictures I've seen regarding devotion to Guardian Angels.

Here's a version of the common prayer to one's Guardian Angel:

    Good questions for Matthew's AI.

I imagine faith and doing our part is the best way to benefit from our guardian angel. Doing our part as in calling upon his help frequently and cooperating with God's grace to be worthy of help. Faith as in not worrying after having called upon him, trusting he will help us according to our necessities and God's will. I'm sure thanking him and God for your angel are of benefit as well.
"Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect."
"Seek first the kingdom of Heaven..."
"Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment"

  • Wow, thank you B from A for all that love of our guarding angels,
especially for that prayer we were all taught since kids.
How did I forget it. I will say it now every night and day.

Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this night, be at my side, To light and guard, Rule and guide. Amen.

When we were growing up my mother used to encourage us to pray a novena to our guardian angel to help us chose a good name by which to call him and so endear him more to our hearts.  My choice ended up being Zaviel.  A friend of mine made a drawing for me of him basing his face off of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows.  I had it framed and is has been in my bedroom for years.

  • Guardian Angels are awesome.  They are faster transmitting messages than any man can come up with.  Imagine if we acknowledged all the Guardian Angels in the world right now and asked them to battle the evil one that would be 8+ billion  Angels.  I think many have forgotten these great friends.
1 Corinthians: Chapter 13 "4 Charity is patient, is kind: charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely; is not puffed up; 5 Is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil;"

  • I remember that there was a saint (but I can't remember which one) that would always open the door for his guardian angel to enter or leave before him.

We have our boys pray the "Angel of God" prayer every morning and every evening.

Another short prayer that I have always liked to the guardian angels is:

"From stain of sin, oh keep us free,
And at our death our helpers be!"
"Jesus, Meek and Humble of Heart, make my heart like unto Thine!"

  • Give your angel a name.  I crossed a street too soon when I was on a bicycle  and when I got to the other side, I knew I did too soon and saw a very large wing, I took it to be my guardian angels wing.  That one wing was the height of a telephone pole.  I will never forget that.

Fr. Leblanc  RIP of Our lady of the Sun in El Mirage, loved his angel and bought many angel statues for the church.  He put in 2 very large ones at the altar, 6 angels Holy founts. He had the children of the church to give them a name and plaques were made with their names attached to the statues.  There is Grace, Angelo, Faith, Frances etc.

  • A visiting priest at the local SSPX chapel near me recently gave an excellent sermon about the angels. He said, based off the writings of the Saints (I forget who), that even one reception of Communion at Mass offered for the glory of the Angels, and thanking God for making the Angels so glorious, would cause the Angels so much joy that they would return our prayers 1000-fold in graces. I thought it was very beautiful and since then have made more of an effort to acknowledge and pray to my Guardian Angel.

  • I actually would highly recommend that those who have families pray also to the Guardian Angel of their families.  Not only individual souls, but any organized group that's consisten with God's order, such as a legitimate family, they all have Guardian Angels, and these are often neglected, when they can work best to coordinate with the individual Guardians to bring about peace in the family where there's strife.

We saw the angel who appeared to the children at Fatima identify himself [sic] as the Guardian of Portugal.  So Nations, and probably States, Cities, families, Dioceses, parishes, etc. ... all probably have assigned Guardian Angels.

I believe the big guns like St. Michael and St. Joseph have care over the Church a whole.

See, I don't like the notion of naming your Guardian ... since that might imply an authority over them.

But the answer is here on this thread ... just SPEND TIME TALKING TO THEM.

That's it.  How do you form a bond with anyone?  You spend time with them, talk to them, and get to know them.  Stay in communication with them and talk to them often, and that bond will naturally emerge.

I like to add the second part: From stain of sin keep me free, and at my death my helper be.

What does Zaviel mean if it has a meaning?
"Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect."
"Seek first the kingdom of Heaven..."
"Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment"
