  • Catholic school officials in Cincinnati and Chicago have advised principals not to cooperate with the “ice-bucket challenge,” an internet campaign that has raised over $40 million for research to combat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease.”

While applauding efforts to fight the disease, Church spokesmen expressed misgivings about donations to the ALS Association. Sister Mary Paul McCaughey pointed out that the ALS Association “uses embryonic stem cells for its research.”

Some Catholic officials suggested that if parochial-school students participate in the ice-bucket challenge, they should send their contributions to the John Paul II Medical Research Center, which also does research on ALS but uses only adult stem cells.

In Boston, John Frates, a Catholic who spearheaded the ice-bucket campaign after his son Peter was stricken with ALS, said that he recognized the reasons for Church leaders’ qualms about the effort. “I understand the Catholic dogma,” he told the Boston Herald. “I’m also conflicted with the teachings. I struggle with it, too. I just want my son cured.”

  • This "ice bucket dumping" is some sort of Satanic "chrismation" that's marking the masses (as it's now gone mainstream) for a ritual blood sacrifice or other culling. It's an occultic mockery or symbolism that's enjoyed and understood by the Satanic Bankersteins, while the unknowing sheep participate in their own self-mockery. How does something so trivial, insignificant and, arguably, juvenile spread like wildfire among the masses? How do these things get catapulted into the mainstream? The answer is it's promoted and pushed onto the masses by the Jєω-owned media and pop-culture, then the sheep willingly jump on the bandwagon because it's the "fun new thing to do", but they don't realize they are participating in their own ritual mockery of something more dreadful that will befall them in the future.

  • We didn't do ice bucket.  Since when is charity foolish? Also, there are people around the world who don't have access to clean drinking water.  Why waste water?
May God bless you and keep you

Offering your life for a noble cause is the gateway to Heaven. The question is whether this ASL cause is noble?

Even if the ALS cause is noble, the ice-bucket fanfare certainly is not.  It's ridiculous.  You can give donations without the retarded fanfare.  And even if the silliness results in much more money being collected for the cause, don't true Catholics abide by the concept that the ends do not justify the means?  Without getting into how harmful this silliness may or may not be to one's health, let's assume that it can be quite harmful in keeping with the exchange that I've quoted.  Do you believe doing something likely to result in pneumonia or death is justified to obtain more donations?

Ascent makes some very good observations here.

Anything that is wildly, faddishly popular in the secular world (called, very appropriately, "viral") is to be held in suspicion by Catholics for that very reason. And if the now openly Satanic activities of pop whores like Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have taught us anything, it's that the Devil and his minions excel at selling diabolism to the masses under the guise of seemingly innocuous mindless "fun."

It has been reported that, within the pornography industry, Satanic ceremonies are frequently performed before filming commences, "consecrating" the production to Satan, and offering to him the souls of those who watch the final product. This "ice bucket" idiocy looks an awful lot like a mocking imitation of Baptism by affusion. Based on its nearly supernaturally rapid "viral" popularity, and its widespread promotion by the most public faces of the ѕуηαgσgυє of Satan, is it so unreasonable to assume that there has been a similar secret ritual "consecrating" this ritual - and those who practice it - to the Devil? Add to the mix the fact that, behind this ritual is a fundraising effort for veiled infant murder, and I think the demonic nature of the "challenge" becomes all but impossible to deny.

As always, if it's something most of the world is doing, that alone makes the best argument for Catholics not to do it.

  • Most of the videos seem to be elaborately done because  the ice bucket challenge puts them in the spotlight. The challenge is perfect for narcissistic Facebookers.

  • I use social media sparingly, but I was surprised how many people I know did this.

They abort to get the stem cells. We are forbidden to do this.

Interestingly, I saw an article, secular mostly, saying an act of charity and action like this gives people "permission" to do immoral things.
