  • If singing Christmas carols and handing out candy canes to children of incarcerated moms is "in prison," yes, I do it every year with a group from my workplace. The mothers participated via skype last year for the first time.  The logistics of actually getting into any prison makes volunteering virtually impossible.  It is a lot of extra work for prison officials to screen, train, supervise and provide protection for ordinary civilians who come and do what?  For example, one doesn't just hangout and shoot the breeze with inmates on Riker's Island here in NY.  So far as cleaning, tutoring, counseling, they have a paid professional staff for those necessities.  The very real danger exists of inmates assaulting volunteers or of arranging with their outside contacts to harm or use them.  I don't know where you live, but you might make inquiry with the prison authorities in your area.  Keep us posted.  Our Lord says we minister to Him when we visit those in prison.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • This must be at a minimum security facility.  I'd be awfully cautious with needles of any kind around inmates, even if they are female.  But best of luck to you.

I think it said they were in a pre-release stage. It sounded like a huge success and she had a wait list too.

  • I spoke with a captain there he said he would run it by the assistant warden but he didn't think it would fly due to security concerns. He said even if I go in with (#) of needles and leave with (same #) of needles they will still end up in the population.

He was well spoken and sweet trying to tell me it was a hare brained idea  :laugh1: said he appreciated me wanting to do something therapeutic & positive.
