Zen Buddhist-'Catholic' Dialogue
This is a great example of the "spirit of Assisi" in action. Far from seeking converts, Salt Lake City Bp. John Wester" openly rejects proselytizing his Buddhist friends, whom he sees as belonging to an equally valid "faith tradition". If they leave the dialogues more fulfilled in their false religion, so much the better.
Wester was appointed to his post by the "friend of (Buddhist?) tradition," Benedict XVI, and installed by Abp. George "How should I know I wasn't supposed to give communion to a transvestite wearing a string of pearls, mime makeup and a traditional nuns' habit?" Niederauer. That is, if you can stomach the scene. Bp. Wester is found sporting a flanel
shirt over a T-shirt and no appearance whatsoever of his episcopal office,
speaking with a Buddhist who is wearing his own "faith tradition's" costume
and making his own "faith traditon's" gestures, which, BTW, the bishop imitates.
The point of this is to keep one's eyes open for what the clues look like, for
it is a good thing to be informed of developments little by little, rather than by
remaining entirely ignorant and risk being thrown into apoplexy when all of a
sudden one day you are hit with several of these at the same time, such as
when you visit a Novus Ordo friend at his home, or attend a so-called funeral
for a deceased relative.
