  • I hate it when people say that our religion is just about loving and smiling. I love JUSTICE and PURITY, HOLY IRE and MILITANCY...
But alas Jesus in the bible is far from my ideal....loving and acceping prostitues perfering them to chaste people, hating hypocricy more than adultery.....oh how sad....
O Lord I love you, because I don't want to be damned, But the fact that you loved Mary Magdalene more than virgin Marth is worse than hell to me!

  • Our Lord wishes to teach us that there is hope for us as long as we live.

He does not cut us off forever, unless we DIE in our sins. If we sink into the evils of prostitution for 10 years, but then REPENT of that sin, stop doing it, and return to Our Lord with love in our heart for him (and go to Confession to a priest of His Church, which is an institution He founded), He will be extremely happy with us. Especially if we also have a firm resolution to never sin again, and intend to do penance to do our best to atone for our sins. Our Lord must love someone who follows his commands so perfectly! ("Do penance", etc.)

He won't label us, or even hold against us, a sin that is repented and atoned for. We are not "Prostitutes", "Thieves", "Blasphemers", "Gossips", "Gluttons", "Drunks", "Fighters", etc. in God's eyes unless we are STILL guilty of those sins.

Incidentally, God loves us in proportion to how much we love Him. Mary Magdalen DID love Our Lord very much -- she spent the rest of her life in penance, and tradition says she never committed another mortal sin after her conversion.

The lesson Our Lord was teaching us by the parable you speak of is this: The religious life is a higher calling than the life of a layman. Martha was the "active" life, Mary was the "contemplative". The contemplative life IS higher, though not everyone is called to it.

Someone has to grow the food, have children, etc. but that doesn't mean the contemplative life is not the greatest calling a human being can aspire to.

Humans are less inclined to "wipe the slate clean" and give people a second chance. God is so much greater than us. When a prostitute truly converts and becomes a saint, God completely overlooks the sin that has been forgiven. Man could never be that great.

God loves a fervent, repentant woman (that used to be a prostitute) much more than a physical virgin who is lukewarm in her love of God.

Where there is breath, there is hope. This life is a "time of mercy". Even the worst sinner here can take comfort in the fact that he can still repent and atone for his sins.  But after death, sinners must abandon ALL hope...

    Oh I didn't know that.

You didn't know Our Lord is THE IDEAL, or that his love for his own, spotless Mother far exceeds the love he has for anyone else?

I find that VERY hard to believe.

  • Thanks Matthew. Spouse, remember that the love Jesus, who is God and the Second Person of the Trinity has for His Holy Mother is beyond our comprehension. It is on a different level than His love for any other created creature. But, when one person, no matter how sinful returns to Christ, He rejoices. All of Heaven rejoices. That is because  each of us means more than the world to God. More than His own life, He loves each one of us enough to suffer the cruel death of the Cross.
And, the time will come when Jesus will hand out His Perfect Justice, and at that time sinners will be struck dead on the spot.
Also, remember this. Jesus knew that Mary Magdalene could not have gotten where she was if she had been cherished in her life by the men she met.
The male relatives of a women who do not love, teach, nurture and protect a women WILL answer to God. And that goes for any man anywhere who uses a women for pleasure only, or for any man who treats any women as something he owns.
Remember, God created Eve from the rib that was by the heart of Adam. That was to show that Adam, and all men for all times were to love and protect women.
I heard a priest once say God did not take a bone from Adam's foot so that he could kick or stand on her, nor from his hand so that he could strike her, but from his rib that protects his heart as he should protect his women.

  • Gladius, How can she know when she has no priest or teacher anywhere near her? She is in Iran, surrounded by those who hate Christ and her only help is us. We must help her and lead her to a greater knowledge and further love of Christ. This young lady is someone special who made up her mind to look for the true God, the God of perfect love and justice, and in a place where the Catholic faith is not practiced she still found Christ. That to me is nothing short of a miracle.

  • There is an obsession with the purely physical, external aspect of virginity.

Have you ever met ANYONE who thought Our Lord's detestation of hypocrisy was out of joint, or that he loved Mary Magdalene more than his own Mother?

Something just seems strange to me.  Call me a hard-a**, but such are my present sentiments.

  • Just to clarify, you were talking about Mary, His mother, or were you talking about Martha?

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

  • She was talking about Martha, not Our Lady. (All that's missing is one little "a"  :scratchchin: )

Anyhow, I can relate to how spouse is thinking here. When your personality is such that you always try to do what is best--the teacher's pet sort--stories like Martha/Mary or the prodigal son don't initially make a ton of sense. When you can relate more to Martha it's more difficult to see how Mary Magdalene's actions at that time were more perfect.

I read "virgin" first, as it comes first, and it naturally took off from there.  Life is something else.  Cheerio.
