  • I am unable to fulfill my Sunday obligation today because my parents have to take the car to my uncle's friend so the brakes can be fixed. So they can't take me to mass. And my older sister is working today so she can't take me either. In case any of you didn't know, I am 17 years old (just turned 17 on friday) and my family isn't catholic at all, unless you consider conciliar catholics who believe in a bunch of new age stuff "catholic". I also don't have my license yet, so I can't drive myself to mass.

Now, I know this will sound VERY novus ordo-ish but can I watch an FSSP video of today's mass online? I know the FSSP is bad because they are in union with modernist Rome but I honestly have no other choice right now. Would this help a little with my Sunday obligation? Or should I just not do anything today?

  • I'd pray the Rosary, read your missal if you have one (the Mass for today), make a spiritual communion, and perhaps see if you can find a Tridentine Mass to watch online.  I imagine you should be able to find one.  Perhaps listen to a sermon online, by a traditional Catholic priest.

  • Pray out of your missal.  That's what we do.  That's what traditional Catholics do when they don't have the mass.  You can choose to watch a live stream of Holy Mass, but I think that there are probably live streams of mass where the priest is undoubtedly a priest, which is not an assurance you get with the FSSP.  SGG might have one.  Or, you could always watch a youtube video of mass, even though it probably won't be the propers for today.

Really, watching a video of mass is nice, but it's second to making sure you are uniting your prayers with the intentions of the Church and the intentions for which Christ offers Himself to the Father throughout the world.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • What the above posters said. Pray the Rosary, read your Missal, make a Spiritual Communion, and watch a live Traditional Latin Mass.

Mithrandylan is right, the SGG does offer one on Sunday mornings at 9:00 A.M. ET.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Here are some resources for you:

For Holy Mass, the Divine Office, etc., try this (for reading only):
    http://divinumofficium.com/cgi-bin/horas/officium.pl

    For good sermons, try this:
    http://www.traditionalcatholicsermons.org/

DISCLAIMER: Lest I be accused of trying to "ambush" you, I'm a sede, and some of the sermons are "sede" in nature. If you don't want to listen to them, just avoid the ones listed under "Novus Ordo."

God has blessed you at your young age in that you recognize the problems today.
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • Wow I'm so humbled by the teens here wanting to attend Mass & lead holy lives even without the support of their parents. God bless you and stay strong no matter what persecution you face.

  • Agreed, Tiffany. It takes much bravery - and grace.

  • Dear CrazyChicken,
Relax.  God doesn't demand the impossible.  He does not require Sunday Mass if it is greatly inconvenient or would cause distress or lack of charity for others.  In your case, you are a minor living under your parents' authority.
Pray the Mass prayers.  Meditate on the readings, especially the Gospel.  Make a spiritual Communion.  Send your guardian angel to mass in your place.  You can do so even if past the time as there is no time in heaven, and the eternal Sacrifice is exactly that, erternally efficacious.  In addition, you might listen to a Sung Mass on-line for today, Trinity Sunday.  Or do some.reading on the Holy Trinity.  Pray the Rosary.
The Third Commàndment is God's Law and is binding on all.  Sunday Mass is Church Law and is not binding when not possible.
I hope this answers your  question and puts your heart at ease.
    Frannces.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • pollozlocoz, your dedication to fulfill your obligation is a great grace!  He must love you very much to provide this to you, considering the apostasy of your family.

I've often utilized the following, in conjunction with my missal, when I cannot attend a weekday Mass:
Assisting in abstentia at Holy Mass
    http://www.dailycatholic.org/issue/2002Oct/absentia.htm

    And I found this:

Be assured of prayers from the members of this forum.

  • Here's today's sermon from Fr. Cekada. It's titled - coincidentally - "Fortitude in the Family." SGG is a little "cultish," IMO, but I love their sermons.

  • Thank you all for your advise and your links, they have helped me a lot today.

Also I want to say that I don't think my family are exactly "apostates" they just don't know any better.
