Catholic Tradition holds that when Our Lord returns it'll be the end of the world.
Looking at it one way, "Our Lord returns" every time the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated.
I don't know what the Fathers of the Church have to say about it, but I'm not sure we know that the
parousia will happen in exactly "this way", or "that way", or that the events of the Last Days won't happen in some kind of slow-motion way, culminating in Our Lord manifesting Himself in a way that no man can question or doubt. After all, the first time around, He came in a very stealthful, secret manner... born to a virgin on the far edge of the world's greatest empire, in a barn full of animals and laid in a feeding-trough.
