  • Peoples' strive to get human respect at the expense of putting God first, using common sense and seeking truth, is  the worst I have ever seen it in my lifetime and is rapidly becoming exponentially worse.

I have been more ostracized by relatives at family gatherings in the past two years than ever before in my life even though we did not discuss Politics and or Religion. I believe I am not accepted by many of my relatives because they can see I am not playing the human respect game. They  are more obsessed by the day to get human respect from certain relatives on facebook and in general everyday life. I use common sense logical thinking and they put keeping human respect ahead of  common sense logical thinking which seems to bother their ecuмenism.

Are you noticing people increasingly obsessing about what other people think about them at the expense of putting God first, using common sense and seeking truth?

  • TiE- I'm sick of it also. But its not just family I see this with (Though they're definitely included) but every-stinking-person I know (outside of Catholicism). What it is, is they disregard the importance of eternal Life, and all things temporal trump that. Their basis of everything, even their lie of what justifies one, is how he makes others 'feel' on this earth. Its nauseating.

  •   A collectivist culture is 1000 times worse. For example: we have a relative who on her wedding day saw that the groom's hand were shaking like in a nervous attack. But because there were so many guests invited, she didn't do anything fearing from "what people will say". She married him and was hit on and on by a man who didn't even give her any money.
See, other people's opinion is preferred to personal happiness.

  • If you want to gain a new perspective on human respect. spend some time with the Amish or Dunkards.  I do business with them regularly.  Meticulously honest and no concern for human respect at all.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

Why does this guy hit on his own wife?  Is he trying to keep the marriage fresh?

Just kidding, couldn't resist -- "hit on" means "flirt with," you mean "beat up."

So she should have guessed from his shaky hand, within minutes, during the marriage ceremony, that he was going to beat her up?  Not sure that's human respect.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

  • I am not sure how you make the logical leap from seeing a prospective groom's hand shaking due to nervousness and inferring that he would be a future wife abuser.

  • I am not married, but I assume that I would be nervous at my wedding if I got married. My brother was nervous at his wedding. My best friend was nervous at his wedding.
