How to make Christmas special

  • Because of my recent spine surgeries I will not be able to make the long journey to attend Mass for Christmas this year. I also won't be able to cook the festive meal that I normally do. Nor will I be able to decorate the house to the degree that we have become accustomed and I won't be able to put up a Christmas tree this year.
In light of this how do I make Christmas special for my family this year with my physical limitations?  What can we do at home to make the day holy and meaningful when we won't be able to go to Mass?

  • Think of the first Christmas with baby Jesus in a manger.

Put manger set out.  For Christmas Mass, go to latinmass.live

Watching Mass live at latinmass.live  with your family at home will be a special Christmas.

Relax and don’t worry; God has it.

    Happy Holy Advent.

May God bless you and keep you

  • Decorate with greenery. This may give you some inspiration. Keep it simple.

My first year as a Traditional Catholic I spent the week with a traditional Catholic family in order to attend Mass (I had just turned 18 and my family was novus ordo).  We got about an inch of and could not make it to Christmas Mass.  The turkey was mostly cooked when the power then went off.  We managed to keep the oven closed and the turkey barely finished cooking.

We pulled out some candles and sat around the dinning room table telling stories and jokes.  Because we only had a few candles everyone mostly had to stay in one room.  Great memories!

Hang in there and I hope that you have a very pleasant advent and Christmas!  😇🥰

  • While you can't receive Holy Communion (and only make a Spiritual Communion), there are many sources where Christmas Mass is streamed online these days (continuing from the COVID plandemic era).

As for the meal and decorations, have your family contribute to those efforts.  If you want to make it special for the family, maybe the family could chip in.
