  • Times always changed.  Go back 60-100 years before Gen X and you had kids working in coal mines, slavery and a plethora of infectious diseases.

Change has been constant since the year dot.  You simply perceive the changes that affect you with greater weighting than those causes by the 30 years war, or the invention of the polio vaccine.

I've nothing against change in itself.  Just the negative outcomes.

Also, ask the typical Russian or citizen of a former Soviet Union Country or China or India which decades they prefered.

I bet most of them are glad to be alive today and not in the 1950s; or earlier.

That is half of the world.  Let's not forget that.

  • It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

  • I can remember when if the couple living together were not married they kept that fact a secret so as to prevent being publicly ostracized..
