  • I "worked" as a housesitter  (and cat-dog-parakeet-guinea pig sitter) for six weeks.  Does that count?  Probably not.

I have family members that live in Europe that teach English as a second language online. No college degrees either.

I am an electrical engineer trained in Computer Engineering (electrics, electronics, hardware, and software) in Germany in the 1980s. My major field of studies was signal, image and speech processing. I have been a co-partner in two rather small engineering companies before I turned a freelancer working at home ever since. In the past more than twenties years I have been living in South America working mainly for a company in the same city in Europe where I was  trained. The company is owned by folks who were fellow students I became acquainted with back then.

That's interesting. How did they get into that? Do you know the details? Do they skype?

Unfortunately I haven’t talked to them in many years so I don’t have details on how they do it exactly. But I do know that they learned the language they’d be working with in a very short time.
I think the program type may be similar to Skillshare. Skillshare is for those interested in online classes. It is very affordable to join and watch videos to improve skills or learn new ones. Perhaps even adding your own videos of a skill you’ve mastered is really easy but I have not looked into how thats done.

There are also ways to get certified to teach ESL rather easily, though it may cost a little bit upfront to go that route.
