  • As Lent wraps up, do you think that Lent this year was fruitful for you?

As for me, as I'm sure for most, there were ups and downs. I failed, for example, to renounce coffee. I did for the first week, but then caved. Other failures could be mentioned. On the bright side, my mental prayer has improved both in quality and consistency. I'm using the Divine Intimacy book.

  • Seems like it was fruitful - then again I think a lot of that had to do with me attending the SSPX Parish Mission they had - wow, if ever Fr. Alphonsus comes to your neck of the woods - go!

Aside from that, I am both glad and not so glad it's almost over.

Glad because I can eat regular again - - not so glad because I will eat regular again.  :ready-to-eat:

  • Jitpring- I too am weak and cave'd in to my coffee addiction :/ ... I cant work without it it seems. However, one thing I did do is now say all 15 decades of the rosary instead of 5 before work.... Give out, Give in, or Give up right?

  • LOL! Been pregnant every second year of my married life. So my lenten abilities have gone by the wayside. We do however abstene from secular T.V and music. Watch that we dont overeat especially sweets. The prayer life is definetly better. Rosary more of a priority. Overall not bad could be better but only one direction is possible and that is up. Oh yeah really enjoyed doing the Stations of the cross. Short version when time strapped long version when not. That meditation in itself is very special.  My thought, Annie!!!!

  • At my age I didn't have to fast, but I gave up sweets, and eating in between meals,  God rewarded me and I lost 10 lbs. I hope I still get some reward in heaven however.

Funny how I can do this not eating in between meals for God, but now that Lent is over, it is very hard for me to continue.

I have so much to pray for, and I read where our prayers are so much more efficacious when we fast, so I better get my act together again.  Lent or no Lent.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • This was the first time since becoming a serious practicing Catholic that I've had a failure to stay strong during Lent.  I realize that given my weaknesses in the area of self will and pride, this probably was best for me to really understand what it means that I can do nothing good of my own accord.

I am learning that I am in a different phase of my conversion that is leading me to be more charitable and understand my and other's weakness in overcoming sin and temptation.  In the past, I was really relying on my own strong will and have had little compassion for others in their weakness and failure.

I didn't plan to give up coffee, but thought it would be good to not have any sweetener in it ... I've been using Sweet & Low.  But I couldn't do it.  I hadn't been eating sweets or drinking alcohol for several months prior to Lent, so that wasn't anything.

But I was supposed to be reading spiritual works every morning and avoiding spending time on the internet.  I couldn't keep it up and gave in over and over again.  I also have been unable to concentrate on spiritual books in several years, after being immersed in them in the early years after my conversion.

  • Mrs.Z, you tried and that was more than many Baptized souls did, I hardly call it a failure.  God knows our weakness, and there is even a prayer for our daily neglects, which helps cover our little neglects.

I will see if I can find it, unless someone else has it on their fingertips nearby.
    Please pray for my soul.
