  • Pope Francis plans to open a lodging for the homeless at the Vatican, the ANSA news service reports.

The 30-bed residence would be staffed by volunteers. Archbishop Konrad KraJєωski, the papal almoner, said that the purpose of the initiative was “giving people their dignity.”

During his pontificate, Pope Francis has already opened shower stalls to serve the homeless, and a barber shop for free haircuts.

  • 30 beds????  How will that help?  I think if he was serious about addressing the problem he could do better than this token deed.

It could mean 30 less people wandering the street. The Vatican City State is a small country with limited space. Do you have any extra space at your house?

  • The Vatican is in the middle of Rome, I doubt there are only 30 homeless wandering around its streets.  Or are these 30 actually citizens of the Vatican city state?  If so I would hope that jobs could be found for 30 people which would enable them to do better than remain homeless.

I do what I can with my limited resources to help those less fortunate, but I don't have billions of dollars in my coffers as I think the Vatican does.

My point is that the Vatican is a vast organization with enough wealth to be able to do more than provide a token 30 beds IF helping those less fortunate was really a priority.  I suspect this effort is just another stunt by "humble Francis" for media consumption, but I am willing to be proved wrong.

  • 30 beds staffed by "volunteers" is disgusting to get PR over when he controls billions and has the degree of influence he does of people and institutions all over the world.

"How wonderful and merciful of him! Why didn't any of his predecessors think of this? They were too busy sitting in their ivory tower, wearing ermine capes and gold rings, I guess. The more Francis differentiates himself from 2,000 years' worth of Supreme Pontiffs, the more I like him."

That's how the average Joe Q. Retard is bound to (and meant to) interpret this gesture. I believe the neocaths call it the "hermeneutic of rupture."

But probably not announced via press release, right?

They didn't have press releases in his day.
