Will we be rewarded in hell for our good works on earth - sort of turn down the heat and flames etc - any comments - jimc

ARE YOU SURE -where did you get that from - does the same apply if you are to go to heaven - how about a good work on your death bed etc - jimc

If you go to Hell, there will be no reward, no comfort.

You don't simply cool a fire that is hotter than any that exists on earth.

If you are miserable to every extreme here on Earth, then perhaps it may follow that your time in paradise will be equal to the saints.

But if your time on Earth is far too privelaged and luxurious, then that might mean something completely different.

Will punishment be lessened for the damned on account of the good they had done while on Earth?

Yes.

Although, Hell is still Hell, even if the torments are lessened. I wouldn't be too happy about anyone dying in mortal sin, even though he did a lot of good while alive. :cry:

The fire in Hell is such that if one spark landed on a millstone, it would be reduced to ashes, if one spark landed in a frozen lake, it would boil instantly.

God has created the fire in Hell expressly to torment, but never to kill.

In hell, there is no time. You are frozen in a single condensed instant. Your body will burn, but it will continually burn because no time is passing. By burn, I mean that you will feel like you are just being engulfed in flame for all eternity.
So yea, Vladimir's right.

And I take it as a no that there is no fire in hell that is equal to that of a fire on earth? Well then, so much for trying to "cool down the fires."

so it is not a real flaming fire but more like a firely feeling - jimc

No, it's a flaming fire, but it doesn't consume the soul and/or body that is submerged in it -- like the burning bush that was not consumed (like Moses saw in the Old Testament)

There are plenty of ways that Hell's torments could be "mitigated" and still be unbearable and horrible torments. I'm sure your imagination could come up with plenty of examples.

God is all just and all merciful -- only He knows the perfect reward for each soul. We must bow down before His divine Goodness and Wisdom, and not ask questions about what is not ours to know.
