  • What a shock!  I was just remembering Fr Collins (RIP) and what Bp Dolan had said about him in his Requiem Mass when I heard the news.  Who would have thought that almost three years to the day that Bp Dolan himself would be gone! :'(

    Something that stood out to me (and even more so now) is when Bp Dolan had mentioned a French bishop or Archbishop during the Requiem for Fr. Collins.  (Maybe someone knows his name or remembers this?) When he had died, they found his personal prayer book.  Every day---on his knees---he prayed the Litany of the Saints.  They had found that he had crossed-out the word ''sudden'' where it says:

    FROM A SUDDEN AND UNPROVIDED DEATH, O Lord, deliver us.

    Bp Dolan said that a Christian lives to die and for this French bishop to be delivered from an unprovided death was good enough.

    Bp Dolan (RIP) may have died suddenly, but hopefully it was not an unprovided death.

    Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

    :pray::pray::pray:
    Surge, Domine, et dissipentur inimici, et eos qui oderunt te, a facie tua!
    St Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle!

  • I'd be careful about crossing out anything that's the official prayer of the Church, such as a Litany.  Church knows what should be prayed for.

    Sudden deaths are not a good thing for Catholics, because it typically prevents reception of the Last Rites, which come with amazing graces, including for the remission of temporal punishmet due to sin.

  • His soul is in my Rosary intentions :pray:
    "Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

    "In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

    "A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

    I know.  Father Collins...then Fr Cekada 1.5 years later...and now Bishop Dolan 1.5 years later.
