  • Very helpful tip, thank you, Clare!

Handy hint! I managed to reduce this thread to 4 (now 5) pages, by changing the "num=5" at the end of the thread URL to "num=20". It means there are 20 posts to a page instead of only 5!
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • I'm dense    Where is the "num =" ??  Is it only on the OP?  I don't see anything like that on the page.

It is where you enter the website address, usually at the very top of the page of the internet browser. Notice:

    http://www.cathinfo.com/catholic.php?a=topic&t=33145&min=40&num=5

You have to get to pg 2 before you'll see it. But, don't think this actually makes the thread any shorter, it just puts more posts on each page.

It's set to 5 per page to optimize server usage. When there are 50 posts on a page, they will all load whether it's your intention to read them all or only read the first 3 and then move on to another topic. We put 5 per page so that you effectively have to say, "yes, give me more!" before the server will load the next five. My personal preference was 10 per page, but I've gotten accustomed to 5. Anything over 15 actually annoys me because it's hard to find where I left off.

Matthew is quite unfriendly in this respect to people who just browse as guests. They only get 3 posts per page. The presumption, though, is if they're not a bot, a spammer, or someone who has been banned, they can easily sign up for an account and see the site as everyone else does.

  • PS. I thought Clare's tip was going to be that she just puts us all on ignore and then doesn't feel the need to read any of it.  :jester:

Actually, I've never put anyone on ignore. Glutton for punishment, me!
