  •   I was wondering about the grace of God and whether we can expect it to substitue for the human shortages and shortcomings....
Some years ago I visited prots who said that they trused "the spirit" and were waiting for Him to decide for them.
Without studying matters, without weighting anything in their minds they would simply close their eyes, shout Haleluja and suddenly decide that the spirit wills this or that.
One of them even said that he was baptized some 30 years ago by a minister who suddenly pushed people into a pool after asking them whether they accpeting Christ as Their Lord or not. So is the case with their ordinations. A new comer should simply show signs of calling of the spirit, then they send him to be ordained. Apparently a haleluja with a blind trust will do for all the defects of the personality, all perversions and all weaknesses. If you dare to object and if you dare to examine human means to see if thing work, they will accuse you of having small faith and the verses like "I am weak but Christ is strong." or "my weaknesses are my strenghts." etc. will be read aloud to you. As a reslut, anybody can be a priest.
The other thing is their marriages. Apparenly the spirit choses the wife/husband for you and if you fail it is because the spirit did not will your marriage. So all human books written about relationships, all advices and experience of your elders that such and such things are wrong will not be headed to, as the spirit or the grace of God will fill all the voids.
I know those things are wrong and heretical, but what is the Catholic way? How much of a thing should be placed in God's hands, how much is our duty? If something is humanly wrong, can we ignore it and say that God will set matters right?
Can a Catholic close his eyes and jump into some unknown thing simply because "The Lord is his shepherd"?

  • Prudence and discernment should always be practiced.

Providence is infinitely beyond the comprehension of our reason, but it does not violate our reason.
