  • I have read, on this forum, that the Church has traditionally taken a stance against socialism. My understanding of socialism is an economic structure where taxes are high. Taxes are high so that the government can sustain a large number of social programs which require government employees and salaries.

If this is the correct understanding of Socialism in the eyes of the Church, then my next question is would it be a sin to take advantage of these programs. I know a lot of people take advantage of welfare, social security disability, unemployment benefits, etc. What exactly is the Church's teaching on this? If it is against social programs then what should people do instead? Suffer for the sake of not living off of the government?

The Church condemns socialism, however the Church also speaks out against the conditions that foster socialism, such as low wages, low benefits, outsourcing, etc. Within reason the Church supports government taxation as well where everyone pays their fair share as long as taxes on businesses are not too high. The Church supports the rights of workers to form unions, but has criticised the modern labor movement and condemned strikes and lock-outs. The Church supports class collaboration and harmony where each class knows its place in society and each is respected. The Church denounces egalitarianism and recognises that each person has a different set of talents and abilities which makes equality impossible.

So in a moral society obviously Socialist/Communist agitation is used to destroy the foundations of a State, since every worker has a chance to live decently. In a moral society each person has the ability to have a better condition in life using his talent and ability, coupled with his will and determination. In a moral society since workers are taken care of by the State, there is no need for strikes and they would be broken up. In a moral society not only is a worker taken care of in terms of his daily bread but also his moral lifestyle since a moral society would be socially conservative/against Hollywood values/against pornography.

  • As for programs/grants, the New Order is over its eyeballs in that department.  The State programs are advertised a St. Vincent De Paul Centers with phone numbers; Are you pregnant?  The so-called Catholic Charities that are supporting abortion, welfare w/ birth control and ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ groups as we all know.  The New Order, is supporting the federal and state governments.  So, there is not separation of church and state, there is just state and federal.  No church.

So should social security disability be condemned?

  • Why not start with Pope Leo's encyclical, Rerum Novarum.

    Human Resources!

You are farmed and exploited as a 'resource' by these huge, leviathon companies.

They are modern equivalent of the exploiting 'giants' which caused the Biblical flood to be unleashed!

    Supermarket - CHAINS.
    D-I-Y CHAINS
    Restaurant - CHAINS

Bankers only have money to expand CHAINS
    - not to support small local business!

This is because the 'chains' suck out all excess cash from local areas, causing poverty (mainly crap low pay jobs) back to head quarters, to be reinvested in The Banks/City!

I think you should take advantage of the benefits that you qualify for since you paid for them with your taxes.
