A guy was friended on Facebook by some woman, their conversation was flirtatious and then turned risque. Then it moved to skype with webcams, with various articles of clothing being removed.

Well, the whole thing was a scam. The man was blackmailed and the person was going to send the video he made to all the victim's friends, family, etc.

http://money.cnn.com/video/technology/2016/05/30/blackmailed-and-held-for-ransom-on-facebook.cnnmoney/index.html?iid=hp-stack-dom

Some people (liberals) think the Church is "mean" for not letting us have "fun" and requiring us to rein in our sɛҳuąƖ urges. But if this man were a practicing Catholic, he wouldn't have done a naked Skype chat to begin with, and all would be well.

At least he didn't kill himself, which others in his position have done!

But my point is, there are REAL UPSIDES to living a moral life, even besides the promise of eternal life. God, and the Catholic Church He founded, know what's best for us.

Here's another point: some fools think that self-abuse helps a sɛҳuąƖly frustrated man to "blow off steam" so he's not under pressure. So why did this particular non-Catholic get led around by his shameful member? He admitted he worked in IT, and he knew better. Are we to believe that this man who is willing to flaunt Catholic morality (by risque talk with strange women, naked webcam chat) is one of that minority of men who avoid self-abuse? I seriously doubt it.

If anything, having the vice of self-abuse makes a man MORE vulnerable to sɛҳuąƖ scams like this one. After all, if a man can't control himself, he can't control himself, right? It puts him in a MORE needy position, not a less needy one.

  • It's probably safe to bet that the majority of practicing Catholics would not do this. However, we are fallen people and people sin and do some really..... stupid things. Unfortunately one could be a practicing Catholic and still do this and come crawling to the confessional later.

I would hope that a practicing Catholic who was hard up for money not being able to pay a large sum would tell the blackmailer to go ahead and do it, offering it up as reparation for his or her sin as the alternative to ѕυιcιdє.
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

Yes, but at least our priests tell us in no uncertain terms that we need to mortify ourselves, and that fornication is a mortal sin, self-abuse is a mortal sin, exposing yourself to strangers of the opposite sex is a mortal sin, etc.

So if a Catholic man did something like this, he did it completely against the advice of his Church, his priest, and all his fellow Catholics.

That goes completely against the mainstream "morality" of what it means to be a "good person", including mainstream Protestantism.

I just think it's funny that one of the big problems in the world today would be solved if people would OBEY Catholic priests and the morality they preach.

Today you have cyber-bullying, nude photos/videos being used as blackmail (sextortion), revenge porn (releasing nude photos/videos to the world that were taken years ago with mutual permission), etc.

So much of that would be moot if people could just maintain control over themselves and adhere to Catholic morality.

Yes, this exactly! It really is good to be Catholic. It certainly does lower your chances considerably for being sucked into something as awful as this. The Church is her wisdom keeps us from this kind of foolishness.

  • There is certainly a peace of soul that accompanies a moral life. God didn't come up with the Commandments for nothing. Every single one of them is for our own good.
