I came back from the US to find four mole hills in the lawn just beside my office, so I called a local pest control company who said it would be $130 just to show up and catch it and $35 dollars each subsequent visit if they could not catch the moles on the first visit.
If you look on the web it suggests that catching moles is hard which was why I was tempted to just spend the money and get the pros to do it.
Then I got obsessed, as as I am wont to do, and started reading all about it. Went to e-Bay, spent $20 on three mole traps deliver next day and watched a youtube video on how to plant them.
Bagged myself two little moles. Easy peasy Japanesy. You just dig a small hole find the tunnel set and lay the trap in line with the tunnel and cover it again with loose dirt
Gloved up and removed the dead bodies this morning.
Struck me that a lot of people in this world, women especially, would not like dealing with dead animals and I looked into what a pest controller makes. Pretty good money and if you run your own local firm $100,000k per year by the time you are 35 is easily possible.
A lot of it has to be cash in hand work as well and you can claim back a lot of equipment chemicals etc against taxes.
Seemed to me like a good job for a Trad man. Local work, flexible hours, nothing is particularly time critical and work that most people (your potential customers) are not going to do themselves because many people don't like killing things or handling dead critters.
