  • You must make a perfect contrition.

The early founders of mother Church sure did not go to a priest to be free form mortal sin? Nor did many of the Saints and other holy people.

But confession was institued by our Lord Himself. " those whose sins you forgive are forgiven etc. " How could the early church lack confession.
But if one has no access to this sacrament he can recite an act of perfect contrition. And he must have the intention of going to confession as soon as possible. And I think he must not receive the Eucharist in the mean time.

    Aphraahat the Persian Sage

"You [priests], then, who are disciples of our illustrious physician [Christ], you ought not deny a curative to those in need of healing. And if anyone uncovers his wound before you, give him the remedy of repentance. And he that is ashamed to make known his weakness, encourage him so that he will not hide it from you. And when he has revealed it to you, do not make it public, lest because of it the innocent might be reckoned as guilty by our enemies and by those who hate us" (Treatises 7:3 [A.D. 340]).

  • A question for my fellow sede-vacantists -

is it licit to confess to a priest who was ordained in the old rite, is not a heretic, but serves a diocesan parish?

  • Is it true that mortal sin kills charity???
If so, why some of you who have mortal sin and have not yet confessed it, love God so much???
There was a young man on FE who was full of zeal and fear of God, yet he told me that he was not in the state of grace. How could he love God so much if he was in the state of mortal sin???

Mortal sin kills more than charity, as you will learn, mortal sin kills your soul.

  • Then why some of you who have still unconfessed mortal sins love God and defend his honor?

Because, we have realized the error of our ways and are trying to repent from them. Aside from that, it is not like God casts off the sinner or anything - the Desert Fathers relate a story of a woman, who is desperation beseeches a prostitute to pray for her ailing son, and God listened to the prayers of this unclean woman (who repented afterword) and healed the woman's child.
