We're Catholics, not Amish.

I think about this all the time: How can a Catholic dress modestly without looking like an Amish Protestant?

In all my years of being a Traditional Catholic I have never seen a single fellow Catholic who looked Amish in the least. I've seen like 2 or 3 neo-victorians here and there, and ONE family who look like LittleHouseOnThePrarie (and they look very nice), but never have I met someone in or outside Church who struck me as looking Amish.

I don't know why people (women in particular) make such a fuss about it. The very idea of accidentally appearing Amish is absurd.

The answer to your question is simple... Don't dress Amish.

What should a woman in her late 20s wear to go to Mass? What should she wear specifically in terms of makeup, clothes etc?

In aother words what would be appropriate?

There are a lot of variations that would be appropriate, depending on the woman's taste and preferences.

Minimum, for me, is knee-length dresses and short sleeves. My neckline can vary, but it's definitely higher than lower.

Above all I strive for an overall feminine look.

Most men's wear IS modest. Dress pants and a nice button down shirt is the ideal, perhaps with a t-shirt underneath the shirt, or a nice polo shirt works, too. Dress shoes are also appropriate, as tennis shoes are kinda slovenly when wearing to Mass. Of course, neither shorts, nor tank tops, et cetera, are acceptable, and are immodest.

Most immodest men's wear centers around sports in my observation.
