  • The point is, a laymen’s opinion on a Scriptural passage MUST be based on someone in the Church who is qualified and has done the research (whether that is a Church Father or St Thomas, etc...and let’s also recognize that such saints as St Thomas didn’t “start from scratch” in his research, but studied St Augustine and others; and St Augustine studied those who came before him, etc.  Church interpretation builds upon itself but it all goes back to the early Church Fathers because they learned directly from the Apostles).

Myrna’s comment that she’s using her imagination to interpret Scripture is uncatholic.  Catholics (especially laymen) aren’t allowed to “start from scratch” related to Scripture.  Certain interpretations of a text may not be binding but that doesn’t mean that such interpretations are 100% wrong or should be ignored.

For example, one would be completely wrong to say “Well, the Church hasn’t declared what “sons of God” or “Giants” means, so I’ll interpret it as meaning “blue eyed men” and “people over 6ft tall.” “

This interpretation would be completely arbitrary and uncatholic.
I think we all agree that we must approach Scripture with the mind of the Church.  Myrna seems to have been trying to do this since she looked at the footnotes of traditional approved Catholic translations of Scripture.  For most laypeople, that is probably better than trying to research it oneself.

Myrna seems to concluded from the fact that there is no agreed upon interpretation that she is free to imagine whatever she likes.  I can understand your concern with this.  It does not seem prudent to engage in baseless speculation.

Personally, when I see that there is no agreed upon interpretation for a passage, I see that as an indication that it is not important to salvation and not worth putting a lot time and energy into thinking about it.  I would probably read through the possibilities mentioned in the footnotes, decide which one made the most sense to me (if I could), and move on.

I am beginning to think you are nothing but another shill, who registered here to confuse Catholics, of which there are several.

I hope you will rethink your harsh judgement of Pax Vobis.  The question under discussion is not very important and certainly not worth bad feelings among fellow Catholics.

"Imagine this:  God created a being before Adam and Eve, He, created beings without an immortal soul as animals, giants with long heads for example.  Perhaps God gave them intelligence but they were so evil He allowed them to destroy themselves.   Then He created Adam and Eve WITH AN IMMORTAL SOUL.
There's a HUGE difference between imagining the crickets in the garden during Our Lord's passion and your erroneous, unscriptural imaginings above.  The former is adding details to a historical event; the above is contrary to what the Church teaches.  I'm not saying you are a heretic, I'm just saying that one is not allowed to imagine/mediate upon anything they want to.  Even pious imaginings must correspond with Scripture or else you open the door to temptation and doubts of Faith.

You are so correct, I posted that in anger, of which I apologize; his insistence that I am interpreting scripture angered me, but perhaps it was my fault, I should have worded my post more to read a pious belief or words to that effect.
Sorry to Pax, and readers here.  :'(
Moving on, as you Jaynek suggested.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Thank you Jayne, for bringing civility to this thread, and thank you to both posters who acted in a truly Catholic manner.

Having said that, the reason I think this topic is important is that we know that satanic "scientists" are tampering with animal-human hybrids, etc.

So if God's word is warning us that cruel evil giants once walked the earth,( in the event that they are able to genetically engineer this type, or another type of terrifying being in the future) it would be beneficial emotionally to be prepared for that possibility.

Even if this is a remote possibility, it might be related to the Three Days Darkness.

Pray for the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
