  • Chantcd, what would be some main points of advice to keep in mind especially as a Catholic to fight the modern world today?

  • Well, I'm not Chant, but I dare say that the fight against the modern world is one we've got to carry out as individuals as much as anything. That is, the holier we are, the more people around us will be edified, and hopefully follow our example. Also of course, prayer and Masses would be powerful 'weapons' for the conversion of sinners (do we pray for the conversion of sinners actively).

But of course, until people convert their minds, hearts and lives to the truth (line them up with reality), the world will remain an unholy mess.

History shows one great saint can convert essentially a whole country. We should probably take a lesson from those saints.

Edit: One hopeful thing for the world, though, is that Bishop Williamson mentioned that apparently the Pope is thinking seriously of consecrating Russia for real, and has been actually having people look into the possibility for him. See the recent Bishop Williamson interview on Dinoscopus. Looks like those millions of Rosaries are kicking in!
I renounce any and all of my former views against what the Church through Pope Leo XIII said, "This, then, is the teaching of the Catholic Church ...no one of the several forms of government is in itself condemned, inasmuch as none of them contains anythi

  • The world and its ways are very appealing to human nature. The world is an enemy that we must be cautious of.

Jesus Christ was hated by the world -- if you find yourself loved by the world, be afraid. Be very afraid.

We must do our duties before God, and not be concerned so much with what the world thinks.

The world is WAY off-base. Therefore, you will appear extremist or "ultra" something or other if you live a good Catholic life in imitation of Christ and His saints. If the world were only a little off-track, this wouldn't be so.

Every hour of our lives must be spent working for an eternity of happiness in Heaven, and avoiding an eternity of torture and pain in Hell. Everything we do either helps us toward that goal, or hinders us -- to a greater or lesser degree. You want to increase "your chances" as much as possible.

Because at the judgment, there is no second chance.

I'd rather be over-zealous and get a high place in heaven, than "mess up" and end up in Hell. Nothing is worth that. Nothing.

  •   I used to believe that people will be attracted to christianity if they see our good behaviours. But now I have changed my mind. People who are under the dominion of devil, world and the flesh, indeed hate any thing catholic. the only thing that may attract such people to our religion is to tell them that wine is OK, or uncovering one's head is not sinful.

On a natural level, perhaps. But don't underestimate the immense power of grace working on souls :)

It takes real grace from God for people recognize goodness and feel convicted of sin.

When one stops feeling guilty about sins, that's a good sign he's in real trouble.

  • Another way Satan works, is to try to keep you away from the sacraments by making you overly scrupulous. We're not perfect, and sometimes, we'll commit a venial sin, and Satan will prey upon our imperfections, trying to keep us away from the sacraments, by blowing up something we did, or making us second guess ourselves.

In my opinion: Yes, sin is terrible, but making a venial sin in your mind into a mortal one by the influence of the devil, is just as damaging, because your venial sins are taken away right before communion at every Mass, and avoiding the sacraments, to keep you in the state of sanctifying grace, is folly, especially in these times.

Not really. Remember that there are a number of souls out there that really, sincerely do mean to be good, even if they don't know the truth yet. For those who are open to being good or doing good, the example Catholics can set can be very powerful. True, those who hate God will not pay much attention, but that doesn't take away from the impact we can have in the lives of those who aren't dead set against God.

I think the number of people who have never seen anyone be REALLY good is ever growing, too. Most of the young people I know are impressed even by lukewarm Catholicism, let alone someone living it to it's fullest, or on fire with it.
