Michele Ferrero, the confectioner who died last week at the age of 89, named his famous line of chocolates, Ferrero Rocher, after the grotto at Lourdes, the Catholic Herald reports.

Ferrero, who was reportedly the wealthiest man in Italy, was a devout Catholic who made an annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. His inspiration for the Ferrero Rocher chocolates was reportedly the Roc de Massabielle, the grotto at Lourdes where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette.

I hope he paid a just wage to his employees so they could support a wife and family, without the wife having to work.

There's quite a deal for these chocolates on Amazon- $12.49 /48 and free shipping. Normally they average ~.75 per piece.
